Saturday, May 29, marks the date Atlanta Braves outfielder Marcell Ozuna was arrested for aggravated assault along with misdemeanor battery.

It was ESPN’s popular reporter who released the story to the world via Twitter Saturday evening. Passan wrote,

“From Sandy Springs, Ga., police: Officers allegedly witnessed Atlanta Braves outfielder Marcell Ozuna grab his wife by her neck and throw her against a wall. He also hit her with a cast on his arm, according to the department’s release.”

I encourage you to conduct a jail records search on the Fulton County website. There, you will find the star outfielder, who is 30 years old, being arrested for two separate charges: aggravated assault strangulation and misdemeanor battery – family violence. Aggravated assault strangulation is considered a felony in Georgia, and Ozuna is being held with bond at the Fulton County Jail.

Convicts guilty of actions like Ozuna’s face up to a minimum of one year in prison and a maximum of twenty years.

The Atlanta Braves immediately responded to the heat their team was taking and released a statement the same night of the arrest in which they informed those around the world that they are in full support of the MLB’s domestic violence policy and won’t tolerate it. The Braves denied any further comment and passed the situation over to the Office of the Commissioner.

The MLB has certainly been made aware of the player’s arrest and that an investigation must be followed up. The Department of Investigations is beginning a review of the matter in accordance with the policy set in place against domestic violence that the MLB and Players Association strictly enforce. The MLB has the power to discipline players under the policy regardless of any judicial system outcomes meaning Ozuna will likely be suspended under the policy.

Marcell Ozuna’s Season With Braves

Marcell Ozuna has been struggling thus far in the batter’s box and on the field in 2021. This comes just after finishing sixth overall in the National League MVP voting after leading the NL in a variety of offensive categories in his first season with the Braves.

Unfortunately, Ozuna has been battling a bit of an injury case as of late as he went on the 10-day injured list earlier in the week with two dislocated fingers on his left hand. Ozuna updated his Instagram followers, alerting them that he would be out at least six weeks. It seems Ozuna will be missing a lot more time than just six weeks.

This news is just coming after an offseason where Ozuna got paid! He signed a four-year, $65 million contract with the Braves making him an extremely valuable asset to their team and their hopes of capturing a World Series.

Braves 2021 Season Thus Far

The Braves hold the 2nd spot in the National League East Division with an overall record of 24-26. They only trail the hot New York Mets, who hold a record of 25-20.

It almost seems like every year, the Braves get off to a bumpy start, and once Playoffs make their way around the corner, it’s like a new team was born. They are most certainly a World Series caliber team as they cover all areas of the diamond with star athletes.

They have sluggers in Freddie Freeman, Acuna Jr., Ozzie Albies, Austin Riley, and Dansby Swanson. On the mound, they have aces with Ian Anderson and Charlie Morton. Not to mention, Max Fried is a joy to watch when healthy.

A team seems to always struggle when they have extra distractions throughout the entire organization. Hopefully, with the root of the issue gone from the game, the braves are able to put on display the talents that they have.
