The New York Mets will head on the road to take on the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park in the first of the three-game interleague series Monday. This will be the first time they meet since the 2018 season.

New York Mets

The New York Mets have not made the playoffs for three consecutive years. Last year, they finished the season with an 86-76 record but were three games behind the Milwaukee Brewers for a wild card spot. In the hope of improving their team, the Mets hired Luis Rojas as their manager and signed pitcher Michael Wacha to a one-year contract.

The veteran pitcher was inconsistent last year and did not have great numbers. This will be Wacha’s first career appearance against the Red Sox as he pitched for St. Louis Cardinals in the National League his entire career.

However, the Mets believe he is a valuable player due to his experience. Yoenis Cespedes will be part of the lineup after recovering from injuries and has become a key factor in their consistent offense.

The Mets won their first game this season, beating the Atlanta Braves 1-0 on Friday. However, they immediately received a loss the next game to the Braves.

Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox had a major downfall last season, being eliminated from playoff contention and finished third in the American League East, the first time they did not win their division since 2015. They scored an average of 5.56 runs per game last season.

Boston will open up the match with Josh Osich, followed by their new pitcher Zack Godley. Both of the players did not post exceptional numbers for the past few years, but Godley had a few good seasons with Arizona earlier in his career and concede only one run in four innings against the Mets last season.

Due to their lack of depth in the rotation, the Red Sox will rely on their offense to win games this season. Their solid lineup is featured by Xander Bogaerts, who had a decent season with 33 home runs, 117 RBI and a .309 average.

The Red Sox started off to a good start winning the first game against the Baltimore Orioles. However, they lost the series by losing two consecutive games after that.

Team Trends

The New York Mets
– 8-1 in their last 9 interleague road games
– 14-3 in their last 17 interleague games overall
– 4-1 in their last 5 road games

The Boston Red Sox
– 1-5 in their last 6 home games against a right-handed starter

Predictions

The New York Mets will win the battle against the Boston Red Sox. Boston has one of the worst starting rotation in the division and just lost two of the three games against the Orioles. The games showed that they do not have a significant threat to overcome the Mets.

Zack Godley will not make a big difference to the team, whereas Michael Wacha for the Mets is an experienced right-handed pitcher. The Red Sox are weak against right-handed starters, so the Mets will take the three-game series.
