Shortstop is the Deepest Position in MLB Free Agency

Baseball, MLB article at Knup Sports

The MLB free agency period is about to begin and many franchises are looking at future options to bolster their rosters come the 2022 season. With that being said, the most sought-after position is by far the shortstop position.

The shortstop position this offseason features many past, present, and future all-stars that are ready to make an immediate impact on any MLB roster.

Carlos Correa

The 2015 rookie of the year is in his first free agency period of the year and all signs point for him to receive a huge payday this off-season. The Houston Astros shortstop currently is averaging 29 home runs, 105 RBIs, and a .277 batting average for his career.

The first-time free agent is currently posting a WAR of 7.3. Correa is not only known for his ability at the plate but his performance on the field as well. That is something that a specific franchise in New York is fond of with their shortstops. He is linked to the New York Yankees in this winter’s free agency. Only time will tell where Correa will begin the 2022 baseball season.

Trevor Story

Trevor Story is an under-the-radar shortstop free agent who is ready to help any MLB franchise become a contender immediately. Last season in 142 games, Story posted 24 home runs and 75 RBIs with a .251 batting average. He was by far the most complete bat in the Colorado Rockie lineup last season.

Story has met with the Texas Rangers so far this winter. Even though they are not immediate contenders, the Rangers are sure to give the 28-year-old shortstop a massive payday. Being a Dallas, Texas native the two-time Silver Slugger award winner may find a new home in Arlington.

Corey Seager

Seager was an absolute force on the plate and in the field with the Los Angeles Dodgers last season. He is a two-time all-star game participant who has an average of 26 home runs, 93 RBIs, and a .297 batting average. A solid addition to any lineup is Corey Seager.

He has been linked to the New York Yankees as well. Along with Correa, Seager will be looking to earn his cash if he is signed as the new addition to the Yankees.

Javier Baez

Baez suited up for both the Chicago Cubs and the New York Mets in 2021, recording a batting average of .265 with 31 home runs and 87 RBIs. A hot commodity at the trade deadline finds himself being looked at as an important piece that a team will add in the free-agent market.

Javier Baez is a two-time all-star and a gold glove award winner at the shortstop position. Baez has proven his ability to help teams compete throughout the MLB season. This off-season will give him a chance to sign with a contender and try and compete in the postseason. Baez has been shown interest from the Boston Red Sox early on this Winter.
