Tampa Bay Rays made it official that due to the hurricane that caused extensive damage to their spring training site at Charlotte Sports Park will be moved to Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports.

However, they will play spring games at Tropicana Field and not the Wide World of Sports.

The Tampa Bay Rays announced in December their decision to move after hurricane Ian  wrecked havoc on the west coast of Florida

In short, the Rays will open training camp on Feb. 6 for early arrivals and Feb. for the arrival of pitchers and catchers at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex, formerly the spring home of the Atlanta Braves. As players arrive they’ll expanded workouts, until the end of February, when the Rays play a single Orlando Grapefruit League game at The Stadium (formerly known as Disney Field, Cracker Jack Stadium and The Ballpark at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex) at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex.

From there, all there attention will move to Tropicana Field in Tampa. Minor league players will continue to train at Disney’ Wide World of Sport

Rays president Matt Silverman made this statement in his press release:

“We are thankful for Disney’s willingness and ability to accommodate our unexpected Spring Training needs, ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex will provide our players and coaches with first-class facilities for their annual ramp-up to the season.”

Tampa Bay Rays begin Spring Training on Saturday, February 25 on the road with the Minnesota Twins and then play the one game at Disney’ s Wide World of Sports on Sunday, February 26 with Pittsburgh.
