Baseball, MLB article at Knup Sports

The best team in MLB history is the 1998 New York Yankees. Check out the article to find out why.

The best club in MLB history is decided by a variety of variables. It involves more than just the World Series. Additionally, it is not only based on MLB standings, it’s also about a teams regular season stats and record, then we can decide what team holds the throne. With that being said, the best MLB team of all time is the 1998 New York Yankees.

1998 New York Yankees

The 1998 team, the most successful in the illustrious history of the Yankees franchise, cruised through the regular season and into the postseason, going 11-2 and sweeping the San Diego Padres in the World Series.

The Yankees started their final MLB empire in 1998 following claiming the World Series in 1996 and losing the ALCS the following year. AL MVP contenders Bernie Williams (.997 OPS) and Derek Jeter (.864 OPS) were in New York’s starting lineup, along with hitters Paul O’Neill (.882 OPS), Scott Brosius (.843 OPS), and Tino Martinez (.860 OPS).

The Yankees led MLB in runs scored (965), OPS+ (116), batting average (.288), bases stolen (153), and hits during the regular season (1,625).

1975 Cincinnati Reds

The 2nd best time in MLB history is the 1975 Cincinnati Reds. Their record was 108-54 (7-3 in the postseason, won the World Series). The championship team of Cincinnati’s era, the 1975 squad defeated the Red Sox in what is arguably talked about to be the best series in history to win the title in seven games.

Johnny Bench stats(.878 OPS, 28 HR, 110 RBI), Tony Perez stats (.816 OPS, 20 HR, 109 RBI), Pete Rose stats (838 OPS, 210 H, 112 R), and George Foster stats (.875 OPS, 23 HR) all had successful seasons. Joe Morgan (.974 OPS, 67 SB) was named the National League MVP.

The 1975 team’s 3.37 ERA was third overall, and the pitching staff was a threat to go along with the potent offense. This was the real differentiator for the team. All three Don Gullett, Jack Billingham, and Gary Nolan won 15 games.

1927 NY Yankees

The 3rd best team in MLB history can also be said to be the 1927 New York Yankees. Their record was 110-44 (4-0 in the post season, won World Series). The 1927 Yankees featured one of baseball’s most feared lineups thanks to their renowned group known as “Murderers’ Row,” which was led by luminaries Babe Ruth (1.258 OPS, 60 HR, 164 RBI) and Lou Gehrig (1.250 OPS, 47 HR, 175 RBI). They had the highest strike rate and home runs in the league thanks to strong pitching support.

Hall of Famers Waite Hoyt (22-7, 2.63 ERA) and Herb Pennock (19-8, 3.00 ERA) were in their roster, and Urban Shocker (18-6, 2.84 ERA) also had a great year. The staff led the AL with a 3.20 ERA. The 1927 Yankees are largely considered as the greatest baseball team in history.

It is no doubt in my mind that the New York Yankees is the best team in MLB History. When it comes to World Series victories, no other team can compare to the Yankees. They have won 27 World Series Titles, they have won 4 in a row from 1936-39 then five times from 1949-1953.
