Wednesday Edition of Cardinals Minor League Report
One thing that is tough this week is the Cardinals are playing on the West Coast and game starts are late back in the Central Time Zone. Add to that, the Memphis Redbirds are also in California for late games in Sacramento. The reports will be published a few hours later when the Cardinals are on the West Coast.
St.Louis Cardinals took a 13 inning loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers and wasted a fantastic start from Lance Lynn. He pitched 8 innings and allowed one run on 2 hits. The only run came in the 1st inning as a home run from Yasmani Grandal. Lynn walked two and struck out 10 Dodgers batters.Clayton Kershaw stymied the Cardinals on four hits but the Birds couldn’t get through to the Dodger relievers. Aledmys Diaz smacked a double for their lone extra-base hit. Jonathan Broxton took the loss by allowing the winning run. Mike Leake takes the mound tonight for the second game of the Dodgers series.
MINOR LEAGUES
The Memphis Redbirds suffered a loss to Sacramento 6-2. Patrick Wisdom had two hits and Luke Voit drove in a run. Mike Mayers (3-5) took the loss as he worked five innings and allowed nine hits and five earned runs. He also walked three and struck out three batters. Trey Nielsen relieved and gave up one hit in one inning. Zach Phillips allowed a run and two hits in relief. The game last 2 hours and 37 minutes with 5934 in attendance.
Luke Weaver (3-1, 1.67 ERA) will be on the mound for the Redbirds for game two of the Sacramento series. The game is scheduled for 2:05 CT.
Due to wet grounds, the Springfield Cardinals game at Corpus Christi was postponed. The two teams will play a doubleheader today with Ian McKinney (0-0, 2.25 ERA) getting the ball for the first game which is scheduled for 5:05 CT. Following that game two has Austin Gomber (2-3, 4.17 ERA) starting for Springfield.
Palm Beach Cardinals scored 5 runs in the first two innings to catapult out in front of Lakeland on the way to a 9-5 victory. Randy Arozarena continued his very hot hitting as he was 4-for-5 with 2 RBI’s in the in. Darren Seferina drove in 3 runs with 2 hits which included his first home run of the year. Casey Turgeon smacked his 4th home run with 2 hits and 2 runs knocked in. Adding to the offense was Leobaldo Pina hitting his 2nd homer this season.
Zac Gallen started the game and lasted 4 innings and gave up 8 hits and two earned runs while walking two and fanning two in the game. Estarlin Arias followed him to the mound and allowed two hits and one run in one inning. Dailyn Martinez threw three innings and allowed one hit and no runs while Ramon Santos shut the out in the final frame of the game. It took 3 hours and 2 minutes to play with only 544 in attendance.
Derian Gonzalez gets the start as he is 1-5 on the year with a 6.00 ERA. The game is set to start at 6:30 ET in Lakeland.
Peoria Chiefs lost 4-1 to the Houston franchise Quad Cities. They fall to 16-27 on the year. The team managed only 4 hits as Andy Young drove in the lone RBI. Steve Farinaro took the loss as he pitched five innings and gave up ten hits and seven runs/ Austin Sexton and Max Altmonte worked 2.2 innings in relief. the game last 2 hours and 50 minutes with 939 in attendance.
