  Monday Edition of the Cardinals Farm Report  

 

These are games from Sunday.

 

 

The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the SFGiants finally by the score of 8-3. Most of the talk about the game centers around the good pitching from veteran Adam Wainwright. He went 6.1 innings of work and allowed five hits and one earned run. Also, he walked three and fanned six for the game. He threw 104 pitches with 64 of them for strikes and earned a game score 65.

The game saw the opening batter for the Giants line a ball down near the left field corner that Tommy Pham made a very nice diving catch. He set the tone of the game with that catch.

The offense saw Randall Grichuk go 2-for-4 in the game with 2 doubles and two screaming outs. He drove in 4 RBI’s in the game and Aledmys Diaz knocked two doubles and Adam Wainwright helped himself with a run batted in and Matt Carpenter hit a home run in the 5th inning.  Jhonny Peralta had two hits and has been good since his return to the club.

The Cardinals travel to Los Angeles to face the Dodgers as Lance Lynn squares off against Clayton Kershaw.

 

Minor Leagues

 

Memphis was beaten by Fresno 9-3. Arturo Reyes took the loss and is now 5-2 on the season. He lasted three innings and gave up 2 hits and two earned runs with 3 walks and 1 punch out. He was followed to the mound by Chris Ellis and he wasn’t very good in 2.1 innings allowing five hits and five runs. He yielded the mound to Josh Lucas and he gave up one run on three hits in just over 2 innings on the hill.

The offense was led by Luke Voit with three hits and Nick Martini walloped his first homer of the season. John Gant (0-0, 2.70 ERA) takes the mound on Monday facing Fresno for a 1:15 pm start. BOX SCORE

 

The Springfield Cardinals defeated NW Arkansas 6-2 on Sunday. The offense was sparked by Magneuris Sierra as he was 2-for-4 and showed no pouting about his return to the minor leagues. Adolis Garcia had the big blow with a 2-run home run (his 4th) along with longballs from Bruce Caldwell (#7) and Jesse Jenner (#1).

Josh Pearce (4-2) picked up the win and a complete game by allowing nine hits and one earned run with 1 walk and six strikeouts.  BOX SCORE  Jack Flaherty (6-1, 1.45 ERA) gets the ball for an 11:15 AM start facing NW Arkansas at Hammons Field.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The High-A affiliate, Palm Beach, defeated the Florida Fire Frogs 2-1. Jake Woodford toed the rubber and was outstanding with 7 innings, four hits, one earned run, 2 walks and 6 strikeouts added to his stat line. Ross Vance got the hold (his 2nd) and Brennan Leitao picked up the save (his first) for the Cardinals.

Luke Dykstra led the team with 3 hits and Randy Arozarena and Edmundo Sosa each had two hits to lead them to a win. BOXSCORE

PB Cardinals send Junior Fernandez (2-1, 3.53 ERA) to start the game on the road at Lakeland in a 6:30 PM first pitch.

 

Peoria Chiefs topped Beloit 7-6 on Sunday afternoon. Nick Plummer added 3 hits and is now batting .283 on the year. Vince Jackson contributed his first home run of the season. Jordan Hicks started the game and gave 6 innings of work allowing 8 hits and 2 earned runs to gain the win. Ronnie Williams recorded the hold and Eric Carter was rewarded with his 3rd save of the season. BOX SCORE

Ian Oxnevad (0-3, 4.78 ERA) gets the start facing Quad Cities on the road with a 6:35 PM start.

 

Short season teams

 

Johnson City begins their season on June 22nd at 7PM.

State College has their home opener on June 19th.
