Rather than this being your typical article, I will use this as a venting session. MLB Baseball is the most boring sport in the world. Here’s why.
MLB pace feels slow
Firstly, and please stop me if you’ve heard this before… It’s just too slow. Quite frankly, the sport moves at a snail’s pace; I’ve never been more bored by a Sport in my lifetime. I try to get into it, but I just never can. It’s fun to play, however.
Is the sport that hard?
Secondly, no matter how hard I try, I can’t understand why anyone likes it. You’re watching grown men throw a ball into a glove for what feels like an eternity. Technically speaking, how hard can it be to throw a ball? You throw the ball, grunt and then repeat, simple basic formula.
The only exciting thing about baseball is the home run derby, which only happens halfway through the season as part of the All-Star break. That is fun to watch. Watching grown men hit baseballs at an astronomical height will never not be fun. That will always be electric. There’s no denying that in my mind.
Seeing fans eagerly anticipate whether a ball will be hit out of the stadium is one of the most genuine feelings in all sports. When I was little, I would always try to emulate what it felt like to be in a home run derby in a video game, but I found that no matter how hard you try, the feeling cannot be replicated. It truly is one of those once-in-a-lifetime moments in sports. And then it goes back to being boring for me.
Also, this is not a reason, just a sidebar. That’s not to say that baseball is without its incredible moments that transcend the sport. One such example is the Miami Marlins game after the tragic death of MLB pitcher, Jose Fernandez. It was an emotional time for the city of Miami. It felt like we had just lost one of our own, which in a sense, we did. This individual represented a number of Cubans in the Miami community, as well as those still fighting for a chance to come here.
They can finally see one of their own make it on the big stage. It’s a shame that his life was cut short as it was. It would’ve been inside to see in the third inning; Dee Gordon hit a home run into the right field spot for his first home run of the MLB season. The stunning thing about this was that Gordon was a second baseman, but he wanted to bat for the first time in his career to honor his friend. You cannot write a better MLB script than that.
MLB’s product is lacking
Thirdly, and again don’t crucify me. Baseball is just not exciting. Heck, even the players don’t look enthused half the time. That is a tremendous problem if you’re trying to entice new fans to watch your product.
I’m not saying that the MLB is struggling monetarily; we know that will never happen. I’m just saying this: please look like you enjoy your job. It will go a long way to making you money and making the league more money, and at the end of the day, that’s what we all want, no?
In conclusion, thank you all for reading this article; maybe some of you are in the same boat as me!
