Tale of the Tape

Paul Felder (17-4-0) is currently ranked sixth in the lightweight division, according to the UFC lightweight rankings. He has 10 wins by knockout and a 44% striking accuracy. He also has a 38% grappling accuracy and averages both takedowns and submissions 0.32 of the time every 15 minutes.

“The Irish Dragon”  lands 3.53 significant strikes a minute while absorbing 3.08. About 65% of the time he lands significant strikes while standing, and lands 56% of his strikes to his opponent’s head. This guy tends to keep the fight standing and wears you down with his aggressive strikes.

Dan Hooker (20-8-0) is currently ranked seventh in the lightweight division. A similar resume to Felder, he also has 10 wins by knockout and a striking accuracy of 43%. He had a grappling accuracy of 38%. His submissions and takedown averages are both 0.47 every 15 minutes.

The Hangman” lands 4.35 significant strikes a minute and receives about 5.13. He lands significant strikes 84% of the time while standing and 70% of those strikes are to his opponent’s head. Another aggressive striker, he seems to really go all out with his strikes and take aim to the head.

Who Comes Out On Top?

Both of these fighters possess some of the most skill and talent we have seen in a while. Having them go head to head is going to be interesting to watch. Some other interesting facts to keep in mind is how these two are physically and emotionally. This fight is also taking place in Dan Hooker’s hometown, so there might be just a little home octagon advantage.

Hooker has a decent size reach advantage over Felder. Hooker has a 75-inch reach compared to Felder’s 70.5, and this may be why Hooker throws more significant strikes out there when compared to opponents who are shorter and do not have the same reach.

Hooker may have a downside to his significant strike ratio, and that is he tends to get hit more that way versus landing his own strikes. This could potentially be destructive and get him knocked out against someone as dangerous as Felder. Hooker is also taller than Felder, but only by about three inches so the height gap is not much to be concerned with.

Felder is used to fighting guys that are a little bigger than him and match up differently on paper, and he still was able to come out with a victory. He has a passion about him that is not like many other fighters out there, but that makes this fight as interesting as ever since they both seem to be aggressive fighters.

Overall, you are going to have an excellent fight on your hands. This should be a fast pace back and forth striking fight, hopefully where both fighters will not stop til the judges announce the winner. I look for Paul Felder to claim a victory and continue his way up the lightweight ladder.
