Kevin Durant’s move to the Warriors was the best for his overall legacy, read the article to see why!

Understanding that Kevin Durant joining the Golden State Warriors was one of the best business decisions for his career at the time relieves me of placing negative remarks upon his legacy.

Kevin Durant is recognized as one of the best scores to ever play the game of basketball. As he played his entire career in Oklahoma City before his trade to Golden State Warriors, he had made a name for himself and was considered one of the top five players in the league. Winning NBA most valuable player in 2014 and being the NBA scoring champion for several years prior.

The only thing anchoring down his career before the year 2016 was the lack of an NBA championship. Kevin Durant is regularly compared to LeBron James in greatness and before 2016 LeBron James had won three NBA championships while Kevin had won zero. The Golden State Warriors and their three core players Stephen Curry Klay Thompson and Draymond Green who had just recently won their first NBA championship defeated Kevin and the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2015 playoffs.

The championship culture was built in Golden State and if Kevin wanted to guarantee a title the following season, he decided to join the Warriors Durant won 2 championships with the Warriors and he would have got a 3rd had he not ruptured his Achilles in the playoffs. in the finals, he faced LeBron James twice and was the most dominant player on the court both times winning two final MVPs.

Golden States success

Golden State reached the finals twice before Durant arrived, and it could have been done so without him. But it’s difficult to imagine the Warriors being praised as the most talented and imposing basketball force in history if they had not added KD. He’d never overtake Stephen Curry as the face of the Bay Area.

He’d never be considered one of the “original” Warriors, along with Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Andre Iguodala. Even though fans embraced him, the squeeze was never quite as tight as it was for the members of that first championship team in 2015. In the end, it appears that the Warriors received more of what they desired than Durant. As a result, they were the ones who worked hardest to maintain the status quo. They liked what they had and wished for more of it. Durant was an undeniable benefit for them.

Kevin’s Future

I’m curious as to where Kevin Durant will land next as he is a hot commodity after requesting a trade from The Brooklyn Nets as a fell short with the Milwaukee Bucks in this last playoff. I’m sure wherever Kevin Durant lands that team will be propelled to title contenders the following season as history will most likely repeat itself.

Some reasonable destinations for Kevin Durant may be the Phoenix Suns linking up with Booker and Chris Paul or possibly he will head to Portland and find himself with the duo of Damian Lillard and Jusuf Nurkic. This is my favorite time of year and I’m excited to see where he lands.
