NBA Conference Previews for 2018-2019

The NBA team win totals have been released in Las Vegas and on some offshore sportsbooks, so we are going to take a look preview each team and examine the win totals for them. This is our NBA Preview of the Eastern Conference and Western Conference.

Eastern Conference

Atlantic Division

Boston Celtics– GM Danny Ainge wasn’t particularly busy this offseason but picking up Robert Williams in the draft is expected to pay dividends for the Celtics. Gordon Hayward appears healed from his opening game injury of last season and Kyrie Irving is in his contract year which motivated him. Projected win total: 57.5  OVER

Brooklyn Nets– There is not much going here for the Nets, although, re-signing Joe Harris was a good move. Now Jarrett Allen will need to evolve a bit into his position and D’Angelo Russell will be called upon to show leadership. Projected Win Total: 32.5  UNDER

New York Knicks– Kristaps Porzingas will be out for quite a while and that has one benefit for the Knicks. It will allow Kevin Knox, their top draft pick, to grow and develop on his own until the return of Porzingas. Mario Hezonja and Noah Vonleh are now part of the New York Knick and must be ready to produce each game. Projected Win Total: 29.5  UNDER

Philadelphia 76’ers– This team will no longer be a surprise. Joe Embiid must remain healthy for the 76’ers to compete. Markelle Fultz can give them more and the addition of Zhaire Smith will allow the ball to be distributed a bit more than in the past. Ben Simmons must shoot better for Philadelphia to win. Projected Win Totals: 54.5   OVER

Toronto Raptors– The addition of Kawhi Leonard has solidified this squad if he is healthy. The other side is he will be motivated to show the world he is a top dog in the league. This is a very deep unit with the additions of Danny Green, Greg Monroe, Chris Boucher to Toronto. The back-to-back games will slow them down and cause some concern to keep some off the floor for rest. Projected Win Total: 54.5  UNDER

Central Division

Chicago Bulls– Chicago was able to get hometown player Jabari Parker to sign. This is a gamble that can be worth it if he stays healthy and can handle being home better than Derrick Rose did. Add in Zach LaVine, Lauri Markkhanen and Bobby Portis and the Bulls now have options. In the draft, Wendall Carter was a great pick. This team has gotten better and could move up in the division with LeBron gone. Projected Win Total: 27.5  OVER

Cleveland Cavaliers– It’s going to be different around Cleveland with LeBron James gone. Now their best players will be Kevin Love and rookie Collin Sexton. Channing Frye will be a help but it will be a long year for the Cavaliers. Projected Win Total: 30.5  OVER

Detroit Pistons– The Pistons have a new coach who will have Zaza Pachulia, Glenn Robinson III, and Jose Calderon trying to win games. The health of Reggie Jackson and Stanley Johnson are keys to winning games. Project Win Total: 37.5  UNDER

Indiana Pacers– Thaddeus Young is back and getting Tyreek Evans from Memphis are two players for the Grizzlies to build with. Doug McDermott was a good signing as he will get some offense and rookie Aaron Holiday will help the club diminish the loss of Stephenson. Project Win Total: 47.5  OVER

Milwaukee Bucks– The Bucks lost Parker but the nucleus is here for a good season. Giannis Antetokounpo is solid and the offense has the chance to spread the floor and rain 3-pointers every night. Adding Brook Lopez, Ersan Ilyasova is helpful along with rookie Donte DiVincenzo can win games this year. Projected Win Total: 46.5  OVER

Southeast Division

Atlanta Hawks– First-year coach Lloyd Pierce is expected to play an uptempo game. The Hawks now have Trae Young and he will be given free reign in his rookie season. The hope is he turns into a Steph Curry type player while not inning too many games so they can secure the first pick next year in the draft.  Projected win total: 23.5  UNDER

Charlotte Hornets– GM Mitch Kupchak wasn’t afraid to make some moves. He picked up Tony Parker to aid on the floor and influence the youngsters on the roster into all things basketball related. They drafted a winner with Devonte Graham but they lost Dwight Howard. If this team stays healthy and Nicolas Batum along with Michael Kidd-Gilchrist can play, this team is headed to the playoffs. Projected Win Total: 35.5  OVER

Miami Heat– The Heat may be a tick better than their Florida mate, the Orlando Magic, but not by much. Duncan Robinson can play both ends of the floor as can Yante Maten. Derrick Jones, Jr. look decent in the summer league and if Hassan Whiteside and Bam Adebayo can improve they may be able to wait for Dwayne Wade and Udonis Haslem to recover from their injuries to be serious at the end of the season. Projected Win Total: 41.5  UNDER

Orlando Magic-There isn’t much going in Orlando. They made a few trades before last year was up and now they rely on draft selection Mo Bamba along with Jerian Grant, Timofey Mozgov to keep the team going. If Jonathan Issac can stay healthy things could improve but this team has the worst guard in the NBA. Projected Win Total: 31.5  UNDER

Washington Wizards– Head coach Scott Brooks has a solid rotation now with Jeff Green, Austin Rivers, and Thomas Bryant along with veteran Dwight Howard. This team may win the weak Southeast with a healthy season. Projected Win Total: 44.5  OVER

WESTERN CONFERENCE

Northwest Division

Denver Nuggets– In the draft, The Nuggets selected Michael Porter, Jr. to add to Nikola Jokic that signed an extension. The management was added guard Isaiah Thomas to the roster. This team missed the playoffs by one game. Projected Win Total: 47.5  UNDER

Minnesota Timberwolves– This team may have lost their window of opportunity with the young players they had. Rookie Keita Bates-Diop was drafted and will help in many offensive categories. But problems exist as Karl-Anthony Towns and Jimmy Butler don’t like each other and Andrew Wiggins has played sporadic and looks lost at times. The playoffs may be a dream. Projected Win Total: 44.5  UNDER

Oklahoma City Thunder– The management did a fantastic job getting Paul George to stay and moving Carmelo Anthony to another team. Dennis Schroder comes in and will likely become a needed sixth man on the team. Russell Westbrook should be able to relax a bit with Nerlens Noel and Andre Roberson chiming in on defense. Projected Win Total: 50.5  OVER

Portland TrailBlazers– This team may be able to compete for the division title as Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum will handle the guard but their replacements will lack experience. Adding Nik Staukas and Seth Curry will make this team play young but bring up the energy level. Projected Win Total: 41.5  OVER

Utah Jazz– There wasn’t much movement with the roster during the offseason but with the addition of Grayson Allen in the draft, thi team became tougher. They did lose Jonas Jerebko but head coach Quin Snyder will look to get better and remind the roster how close they came last year. Projected Win Total: 48.5  OVER

Pacific Division

Golden State Warriors– The best team in the NBA continues to get better. The Warriors continue with Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, Draymond Green Shaun Livingston, Tristan Thompson and Andre Iguodala but they added Demarcus Cousins to the mix and now have more depth. This team has one issue that might be that they don’t care how many games they win in the regular season. Projected Win Total: 62.5  OVER

Los Angeles Clippers– Things are falling apart for the Clippers. They lose DeAndre Jordan and now head coach Doc Rivers will need to orchestrate some small ball offense to fit the personnel. Marcin Gortat will be at center, with Lou Williams, Patrick Beverley, and Avery Bradley being key players. Look for this team to employ a process known as “tanking” the final few weeks of the season. Projected Win Total: 35.5  UNDER

Los Angeles Lakers– The best player in the NBA just joined the Lakers. LeBron James will make everyone around him better on the field and off the field. He has the clout and the moxie to pull it off. Rajon Rondo will be a huge asset for James as Lonzo Ball, Lyle Kuzma, and Jason Hart soak up experience. Look for rookie Svi Mykhailuk to become a big second-team player for Los Angeles. Projected Win Totals: 48.5  OVER

Phoenix Suns– The youngsters for the Suns might be able to surprise many teams. Deandre Ayton, their #1 pick in the draft, has the potential to be a star and Mikal Bridges, another draftee, is really good. Add them to Josh Jackson and the return of Brandon Knight and things improve. Projected Win Total: 28.5  OVER

Sacramento Kings– There is not much good going on for the Kings. The headlines will be about their #1 draft pick Marvin Bagley III. One aspect of the roster is that there will be healthy competition for minutes on the floor for many. Projected Win Total: 25.5   UNDER

Southwest Division

Dallas Mavericks– This could be a much-improved squad with last year’s top pick, Dennis Smith, and this year’s top pick Luka Doncic playing together. Add to the roster the tough-minded Jalen Brunson with newly acquired DeAndre Jordan for a formidable team. Of course, veterans Dirk Nowitzki and J. J. Barea allow for youngsters like Harrison Barnes and Wes Matthews to have breaks in the game. Projected Win Total: 34.5  OVER

Houston Rockets– The question for Houston is if there are enough basketballs to go around. Offensive is their thing as James Harden and Chris Paul have been able to sort it out, but now the much-traveled Carmelo Anthony is part of the squad and he loves to shoot. Rookie De’Anthony Melton will be able to bring some energy to Houston. Projected Win Total: 54.5  OVER

Memphis Grizzlies– The Grizzlies are hopeful Mike Conley is healthy and ready to return. Rookie Jaren Jackson will be a ton of talent to this squad. Look for Marc Gasol and others to feel a bit more energized this year. Projected Win Total: 34.5  UNDER

New Orleans Pelicans– The Pelicans have added Julius Randle, Elfrid Payton, and Trevon Bluiett but lost DeMarcus Cousins, Rajon Rondo, and Charles Cooke. This team will hope to play an uptempo style but may struggle with the horses they have. E’Twaun Moore and Solomon Hill are starters if that means anything to the quality of this team.  Projected Win Total: 44.5  UNDER

San Antonio Spurs– The roster is much different than what they ended last year with as 40% of it is gone. DeMar DeRozan will be asked to do things he likely has never done as the team leader. Marco Belinelli must be ready for tons of playing time. Now that Tony Parker and Kawhi Leonard are gone, coach Popovich must do his best coaching Projected Win Totals: 43.5  OVER
