Jazz vs Celtics Pick: As things have slowly begun to change in the West, the Utah Jazz are still atop the conference. And the Boston Celtics have started to turn some heads out East. People are continually being reminded of the tremendous potential of Robert “Timelord” Williams III.
Both of these teams have shown flashes of greatness this season. Utah has gotten more attention, and for good measure. They were the final NBA team with a single-digit number of losses. They lost #10 over the weekend. The magic is slowly starting to wear off, but to be where they are in a loaded conference, is very impressive.
Boston is a much better team with Marcus Smart around. There is no question about that. As he has come back and slowly gotten acclimated in the lineup again, the team has been playing better. Romeo Langford is finally healthy and beginning to practice again.
The bench unit has a lot of questions surrounding it, and it’s unclear who even heads up Brad Stevens second-unit. But collectively, it has been better.
- Spread: The Jazz are slated as the favorites at -5
- Total: The over/under is set at 227.5 points.
Jazz Searching for Their Twenty-Ninth Win
It has been a crazy NBA season, for a number of reasons. For starters, 47 players are averaging at least 20 points per game this year. Utah has one of them, and his name is Donovan Mitchell. Averaging 24 points per game and capable of getting hot when you least expect him too, his game has continued to improve. Mitchell had Utah in the second-round of the playoffs as a rookie in this league. He’s special.
More important than that, is his mended relationship with Rudy Gobert. The 7-footer has had another strong year, averaging a double-double once again. He made his way into the All-Star Game, and remains in the Defensive Player of the Year discussion. Jordan Clarkson is scoring 18 per game off the bench, proving to be worth every penny. They signed him to an extension this past offseason.
The team recently added Ersan Ilyasova, who could see some minutes in this one. Whether he signed for depth or to get minutes still remains to be seen. But he regularly led the league in charges drawn, and is an exceptional stretch big man.
Utah is hoping to acquire PJ Tucker from the Houston Rockets, as are several other teams.
Celtics Seek Home Win
At 20-18, this season has without a doubt been a bust for the Celtics. They are in a very similar position as their conference final counterpart from last season. The Miami Heat are just one game ahead of Boston, though they have won nine of 10 overall. These Celtics usually win their contests when Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown share the floor together.
The center position is either an area of weakness or a hidden strength, depending on who you ask. Robert Williams would tell you that the position is deep. GM’s around the league might think they have a trade partner for their big men.
Analysts not calling Celtics games on ESPN will probably agree with those GM’s. Tristan Thompson, Daniel Theis and Williams are probably not enough, though.
They will need to scour the trade market in the next 10 days in order to figure out if they can get an Andre Drummond or LaMarcus Aldridge to Beantown.
Look for Kemba Walker and Marcus Smart to look for their shots aggressively in this game with the focus being heavy on Tatum and Brown.
Jazz vs Celtics Pick
Total: Make sure to ride with the over! The two teams will pass 227 points, as the stars will be out in this game.
Spread: Utah is a five-point favorite. It’s too bad, though. They won’t be winning this game. The Celtics will get the surprise victory on national TV. So, make sure you roll with Celtics +5. They’ll get it done in front of the home crowd as Tatum scores 35+ points.
