2K23 unveils new cover
There is an old adage about the circle of life— no, not the song in The Lion King, but a testament to the unity and balance that exists within nature.
The most iconic moments in sports are often engrained in history because of “the circle of life” narrative; this includes Ken Griffey Jr. and Sr. sharing the diamond, LeBron James returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers to deliver his hometown city’s first championship in 50 years, or Tiger Woods returning from multiple life-threatening injuries to win the 2019 Masters.
In yet another example of the perfect harmony of life, Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan will grace the upcoming cover of NBA 2K23, the same year as his iconic jersey number.
A trailer released by Electronic Arts (EA) during the build-up to the game’s launch depicted Jordan’s most iconic moments during his Chicago tenure in video-game form, starting with his tongue-out, free-throw line jam in the 1988 Slam Dunk contest, and finishing with his mesmerizing reverse-cradle dunk against the New York Knicks in his first trip to Madison Square Garden.

Last year’s game featured Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic on the cover of the regular release, with a special 75th edition portraying Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Dirk Nowitzki and Kevin Durant.
The franchise, which debuted in 1999 with cover athlete Allen Iverson, is one of EA’s most successful, along with FIFA and Madden NFL. Next year marks the GOAT’s fourth time gracing the cover, having most recently featured in a special edition of 2K16.
