Basketball, NBA, NCAAB, CBB, College Hoops article at Knup Sports

As the 2022-2023 NBA season approaches every fan debates on who will be the NBA MVP of the regular season. Although many fans might put out names like Steph Curry, Demar Derozan, or Lebron James none of these players make this list.

Coming into this season, there are many elite players that may come close to being an NBA MVP this year or in the future. The true players that have a chance to win this year’s NBA MVP are clear. Although most lists start by ranking the players, this will be in no specific order.

Giannis Antetokounmpo

Giannas is one of the most dominant players to ever set foot on the court. With two NBA MVPs already, he’s set for the perfect season to earn a third. Averaging thirty points, five assists, and eleven rebounds. Those are already NBA MVP-level numbers, and at the age of 27, he’s only going to get better

Now that voter fatigue has worn off in past years, along with Khris Middleton coming back, allowing the team to be one of the top seeds in the east. There’s nothing that can stop the Greek Freak himself this year besides himself.

Luka Dončić

One of the top point guards in the league right now, Luka Magic truly is a spectacle to watch when he is on the court. Making shots believed to be impossible or downright bad. Luka is only 23 and is already a multiple-time all-star.

Luka Dončić averaged twenty-eight points, nine rebounds, and eight assists last year. Only a few assists and rebounds away from averaging a triple-double last season. The next step for the superstar is putting his team at a one or two seed.

Jayson Tatum

As all NBA fans saw in the finals, Tatum did not perform the best. Tatum is one of the most elite scorers in the league that led the Boston Celtics to a two seed in the east and the NBA finals. The Celtics all star averaged 27 points and 4 assists on the year at the age of twenty-four.

Tatum is the dark horse of this list as fans don’t know how he’ll come back after the poor performance in the finals. If he can take that loss and poor performance and use it as motivation, he’ll easily be able to take the next step to being one of the greats. Along with that comes dominating the league and winning his first MVP.

Joel Embiid

Embiid, for the last two NBA seasons, has been one of the top players in contention for the NBA MVP award. Both years he would fall out of contention because of narratives or injuries. However, he’s undoubtedly putting up the numbers to win the award. Averaging over thirty points and ten rebounds both years.

Now that voter fatigue is going to be against Nikola Jokic, it puts Joel Embiid in the perfect position to take the award home this year. With the help of James Harden to get the team to one of the top seeds in the west, the NBA MVP award will be a lock for Embiid.
