Looking for 49ers vs Lions pick and preview for the NFL Week 1 game in Detroit? If you are, stay tuned and check out this piece. As the season is almost underway, the San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions look to battle it out in a crowded NFC conference. Both teams have new exciting quarterbacks on their rosters in Jared Goff and Trey Lance. Goff is looking for a fresh start in a new setting, while Lance is trying to learn the ins and outs of the NFL as a rookie. Although Lance is not expected to be the starter, he does have the potential to get out on the field for some select packages which is just another wrinkle the Lions may need to plan for. From San Francisco’s perspective, this could be a great way to gradually develop Lance into an eventual startering role while adding a new exciting dynamic to the team.
- How will Goff look in his Lions debut?
- How aggressive will Jimmy G be?
- How effective will D’Andre Swift be?
Heading into this matchup, look out for the line of scrimmage to be the difference in the game. Whichever team is able to impose their will up front, will have the decisive advantage. San Francisco is known as a run-first team under Kyle Shannahan, while Dan Campell and the Lions may look to feature D’Andre Swift in order to take the pressure off Jared Goff.

Both Garoppolo and Goff are not the most mobile quarterbacks and have struggled with pressure. Therefore, establishing the run will be critical as it will allow both of them to be in more favorable situations.

49ers Preview: Niners Looking to Strike Gold Injury
After a nightmare season characterized by injury, the Niners have been waiting for a fresh year for a very long time. On Sunday, they will finally get their chance. With most of the starters from their 2019 Super Bowl team still intact, the Niners will look to establish their true identity throughout the season with their zone running scheme.
The one obvious difference in this year’s team is the arrival of #3 overall pick Trey Lance. How often will Lance see the field in the early part of the year, and when/if will Kyle Shanahan throw the rookie out there once and for all?
Lions Preview: Motown Looking to Surprise Early On
As Dan Campell makes his NFL head coaching debut, he is looking to establish a winning culture headlined by former #1 overall pick Jared Goff. Goff has had an up and down career since coming to the league in 2016, and is looking to finally establish himself as a capable NFL starter. Maybe a change of scenery with less pressure will help him succeed.
In order to put Goff in favorable situations, I anticipate Campell utilizing some run-heavy sets with D’Andre Swift in the backfield who had an impressive rookie campaign last year. If the Lions offensive line can establish the line of scrimmage this year, they may have a chance to sneak up on some teams.
Odds & Free Betting Analysis for This NFL Game
All betting odds for this game should not be taken as an over-exaggeration. While the Niners are looking to become Super Bowl contenders again, the Lions are entering a complete rebuild with their new head coach.
Despite these bets yielding menial value, I would slam every Niners bet in this one. I find it almost impossible for them not to cover the moneyline, and I would not be surprised if they win by multiple touchdowns as well on the spread.
On the total, I would take the over considering the Niners will score a bunch in the first half, while the Lions may eventually get some touchdowns in garbage time. 51.5 points may seem a tad high, but I anticipate it happening in this one.
