The night game on Saturday in the NFL Postseason features the Tennessee Titans and the New England Patriots. We love the Patriots in this game, despite the demise, and America burying Tom Brady and his teammates. The Patriots finished the regular season with a 12-4 record, while the Titans needed Week 17 win to get into the postseason at 9-7. The Patriots are -5.5 in this game at home over the Titans.
Brady Still Has Playoff Magic
Do not let anyone convince you that Tom Brady no longer has playoff magic. The last time we saw him in the postseason, he was lifting the Super Bowl trophy. Sure, the old man has slown down, but his 4,057 yards and 24 touchdowns is still a thing of beauty. Julian Edelman is the top target for the Patriots, as he caught 100 passes on the season. His 6 touchdowns led the way.
The running game is a monster for New England. A three-headed monster at times. Sony Michel is the true running back, but James White gets plenty of pass-catching work for New England. Michel led the way with 812 yards and 7 touchdowns.
Titans Third Straight 9-7
The Tennessee Titans are a 9-7 team. That’s it. No better, no worse. This team barely made the postseason, and probably would not have had the Houston Texans not played their B team in Week 17.
The major threat for the Titans is former Alabama running back Derrick Henry. He finished the season as the rushing leader with 1,540 yards and 16 touchdowns. Rookie A.J. Brown has been a huge boost for quarterback Ryan Tannehill.
One more thing people will try to sell you on: The Titans won the last meeting between these two teams in November of 18 – by 24 points.
Don’t get Cute; Bet the Patriots
Many people are going to overthink this, and take the Titans on the road. If Bill Bellichick knows one thing – it’s taking away the guy that has the best chance to beat them. That’s Derrick Henry. Sure, Ryan Tannehill has been solid, but the Patriots are going to swallow him up. This seems like a great spot to bet on the champions. The Patriots are small favorites, and that’s who we like. Bet the New England Patriots as the favorite.
