• Quarterback shuffle in San Francisco
  • Both teams need a win
  • Expect a low-scoring game

In the eighth week of the NFL regular season, the Chicago Bears (3-4) host the San Francisco 49ers (2-4) at Soldier Field on Sunday, with kickoff scheduled for 1 pm EST.

These teams aren’t doing so well this season. The Bears just lost badly to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week, and the 49ers fell 30-18 to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, in their fourth consecutive loss. Both of these teams desperately need a win, but which team will be the one to earn it this week?

Bears Preview: No End in Sight to Offensive Struggles

The Chicago Bears are currently 3-4 and third place in the NFC North. Their record certainly reflects the rocky season they have been having so far. The entire team has been struggling, but more specifically and more notably, their offense has neglected to do their job well.

Quarterback Justin Fields has not been performing well at all. He has been struggling with making simple, short passes and his receivers’ inability to catch his balls and his offensive line’s inability to protect him have not helped at all.

The Bears have not been a reliable team this season, and Bears fans are very frustrated, especially with head coach Matt Nagy, who, coincidentally, might not even be able to go to this game due to Covid-19.

Overall, this Bears team has been underwhelming this season, struggling with scoring points, getting offensive momentum going, and slowing down their opponents. Fields is still a young quarterback, and chances are he will improve with time, work, and more experience, but this season is not his season.

49ers Preview: Quarterback Back and Forth

The 49ers aren’t doing so well either, but they’re doing a little bit better than the Bears. They’ve got one more win under their belt, for starters. Their main struggles this season have been on offense and with injuries.

They have been plagued with a lot of injuries on their offensive side, with the most notable injured player being their starting quarterback Trey Lance. Lance is currently still out with a knee injury, but it seems like he is recovering slowly.

Jimmy Garroppolo will probably start again this game, but it is possible that he will be able to play again soon. When Lance is healthy again, chances are that the 49ers will choose to start him indefinitely, even though they were using both Lance and Garroppolo before Lance was out with his injury.

This quarterback back-and-forth isn’t really that great to building and fostering a cohesive offense, so I would not be surprised if the 49ers keep Lance in and refrain from playing Garroppolo.

The 49ers really need a win, as they’ve lost four games straight. I think that this week, they’ll be able to get one. The Bears’ offense won’t really be able to get anything started offensively, so the 49ers should be able to emerge victorious in this Week 8 matchup.

Odds & Free Betting Analysis for This Football Game

DraftKings Sportsbook has the San Francisco 49ers as -3.5 point favorites for this game and -195 moneyline favorites. The total is set for 39.5 points, with the over/under at -110.

I think this will be a pretty low-scoring game, so I would bet the under. Both these teams have struggled a lot offensively this season.

I would also expect the 49ers to cover the spread, as I think the Bears will have a lot of trouble scoring.
