Cleveland Browns Preview: Will They Be Able to Mesh?

The Cleveland Browns are coming into the season with a lot of new additions on the defensive side of the ball. This is something that was very necessary, especially in their linebacking core and secondary. Some notable additions to the Browns this offseason are John Johnson III, Troy Hill, and Jadeveon Clowney.

While there is a lot of talent coming into Cleveland, the question remains on if they will be able to play together well. There is a good chance of there being communication errors and that is something that the Browns can not afford against a championship contender like the Chiefs.

There were not many changes on the offensive side of the ball for Cleveland. The player on the offensive end that will determine the game for the Browns is Baker Mayfield. If he comes out of the gates accurate and making good decisions, the Browns will have a real chance of knocking off the Chief. However, if he starts the season slow, Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt will not be able to carry the offense on their own.

Kansas City Chiefs Preview: Can They Slow Down the Browns?

On the offensive side of the ball for the Chiefs, the biggest question will be if their offensive line will be able to keep up with the Browns pass rush. With Myles Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney as the edge rushers, their offensive line will be put to the test early. If they are able to slow down the Browns pass rush, the Chiefs’ offense will be running as smooth as usual.

Even with the Browns’ great secondary, Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Tyreke Hill will be able to take care of business if the line can hold up. However, if they look like they did in the Super Bowl, the Browns could steal a week one upset.

On defense, the Chiefs will have to focus on stopping the run and forcing Mayfield to beat them. Blitzing extra players to clog running lanes would throw a wrench into the Browns’ offensive game plan. If their offense can not be opened up by the run, they likely will never get flowing.

Odds & Free Betting Analysis For This NFL Game

Some things to look at on the betting side of things are the odds. The Chiefs covering the 6.5 point spread is +100 which means bettors will be doubling their money if they bet on the Chiefs. This would be something that is very hard to pass up. However, in their matchup in the playoffs last season, the game ended with a final score of 22-17. This was with Patrick Mahomes also missing a portion of the game due to a concussion.

The odds are the same either way you go with the over-under which is set at 54.5 points. Keeping in mind both of these offenses are very capable of scoring at will, both teams would have to score 27.5 points for an over or 27 for the under. In their playoff matchup last year, the teams combined for 39 points, well short of what the over-under is set at for this game.

However, that was during the playoffs when defenses are known to play at their peak. With this being an opening week matchup with both teams having a lot to prove, it could end up being a barn burner.
