Chargers vs Rams Pick and Preview – NFL Preseason Week 1 – The battle of Los Angeles has arrived, and for the first time SoFi Stadium will host a crowd.

Los Angeles Rams

This will be the first time that we get to see QB Matthew Stafford in a Rams uniform. The longtime Detroit Lions QB is coming off of a decent season after injury in 2019. He threw for 4084 passing yards, 26 passing touchdowns, and only 10 interceptions. Many people think that he was in a terrible situation in Detroit and will excel in Sean Mcvay’s offensive scheme.

Big blow for the Rams came last month, as young stud RB Cam Akers out of Florida State last season underwent season ending surgery to repair a torn achilles. They will rely on Darrell Henderson to carry the load for Akers this year.

This will also be the first time that we get to see newly acquired WR DeSean Jackson in a Rams uniform. The speedy outside threat will thrive in this offensive scheme, but only if he can limit the amount of injuries, compared to all the ones he had with the Philadelphia Eagles.

More terrible news for the Rams, backup John Wolford who broke out onto the scene for the Rams late last season when Goff went down with an injury, is going to be out for this game most likely. He was diagnosed with appendicitis and underwent surgery to have it removed earlier in the week.

Bryce Perkins and Devlin Hodges will most likely be taking a majority of the snaps tonight to determine who will be the 2nd string QB while Wolford is out.

Los Angeles Chargers

Last season was really a feeling out process for Justin Herbert, and he showed the entire league and the Chargers organization that he is their guy for many years to come. He was absolutely exceptional last season putting up big numbers across the board, despite what the record shows.

Even with the garbage offensive line, Herbert still threw for 4,336 yards, 31 touchdowns, and only 10 interceptions. He will look to replicate and build upon that success this season, and he should be able to with the help of the offensive line being built up.

Getting Corey Linsley and Rashawn Slater in the offseason is going to help the offensive line tremendously, they also gave Herbert another great weapon to throw to in TE Jared Cook. On the defensive side they finally get Derwin James back, after he missed the entire 2020 season. They also drafted one of the best defensive backs in the draft in Asante Samuel Jr. Their defense is looking stacked as always, and they should be able to make some noise in the AFC West with their new offensive additions.

It will be really exciting to see how this team puts it all together going into the 2021 season.

Chargers vs Rams Pick & Betting Odds

The Chargers are opening as -195 favorites to win the game, and the Rams are opening as +165 underdogs to win the game. The O/U is at 34 points, but -110 odds in both directions.

There’s a good chance that the starters don’t play a lot, meaning that the teams will rely on their depth for a majority of the game. I think that the Rams are a very top heavy team, with a few talents sprinkled around on the bench, so if this game were to come down to depth I would go with the Chargers here.

Like I have said multiple times before, I would never take the over in a preseason game, especially in the early weeks where we see lower scoring games. These two teams have great offenses but even better defenses so there is the chance that neither team exceeds more than 15 points, putting the O/U at 34 points at a clear choice to take the under.
