You don’t have to dig very deep to figure out who my favorite NFL team is. It’s written in my Twitter bio. It’s probably in the way you hear me discuss the game. That’s right. I’m a Baltimore Ravens fan and this is my seventeenth year with that distinction.

But this article is about the team I think will win the AFC this year. And it is not the Ravens but Tennessee Titans. It is the team they defeated in the playoffs last year to claim their first postseason victory in the Lamar Jackson era.

I think they have what it takes to win the AFC. And you need to continue reading the article for the reasons why.

Tennessee Titans – New Weapons

The Titans had a very strong offense a year ago, and it was no secret. Ryan Tannehill’s ascension continued, while Derrick Henry continued to run over defenders every week, scoring touchdown after touchdown. Plus, AJ Brown was out there bodying pretty much every defensive back who tried to stop him. He was an absolute monster.

Take all of those guys into account. And now remember that they traded for Julio Jones. They have a duo of dominant Alabama alums with Henry and Julio. Jones has always struggled to catch TD passes, but they have Henry to punch the ball in every time they get close. This offense now has not one but two dominant wide receivers.

Entering into just his third season, Brown projects to dominate. Jones has been one of the best receivers in the league for the better part of the last decade. And though Jonnu Smith is gone, Anthony Firkser project to be a breakthrough candidate at the TE spot.

Darrynton Evans didn’t see the field much last year. But he projects to be a guy who can bring fresh legs on the non-Henry downs. He only needs a few touches per game. Then Tannehill, who is great at limiting turnovers, can hit his guys in tight windows.

Run Defense Will Not Ruin Them

The main reason for the Titans loss to Baltimore in the playoffs stemmed from allowing over 200 rushing yards. And 136 of them came from their QB Lamar Jackson. He just ran all over them, while also throwing the ball decently.

This time though, the offense is going to be good enough to the point where their run D won’t crush them. They brought in Bud Dupree and Denico Autry. And they have plenty of returners back with them. The unit is going to be solid enough.

The thing is, now that Julio is a part of the offense, stopping Tennessee will be even harder. If thy played Baltimore in the playoffs with their current roster as opposed to what they had last year, they would probably take the win.

They’re Hungry

While Baltimore won a playoff game last year, Buffalo lost in the AFC title game. KC lost in the Super Bowl. Cleveland lost in round two. Sure, they’re all hungry. But the Titans fared the worst last year.

KC already has a title. Cleveland has been losing for so long, this is all new to them. Baltimore has been winning playoff games for decades. And Buffalo ended a 20+ year drought without a single postseason victory.

Tennessee went from surprising folks with a 2019 AFC title game appearance to bowing out in round one a season ago. With Julio Jones joining a talented offensive unit, there is not excuse anymore. He lost with Atlanta during 28-3 against the Pats. He wants to win.

Mike Vrabel is as intense as any head coach in the league. He knows how to fire his guys up. And despite the tremendous competition the Titans will face, they WILL find their way to the Super Bowl.

Book it right now. The Tennessee Titans will represent the AFC in the 2022 Super Bowl.

Sports Writer by day, Sports Broadcaster by night. When I’m not doing either of these things, I’m probably playing pickup basketball at the park, or watching whatever NBA game is on the evening’s slate. There is not a day that goes by where I don’t try and learn more about the players in today’s league, as well as the history of them. I’m considered to be an anomaly with my sports fandoms as a Cavaliers, Ravens and Nationals fan.
