Don’t Write off the Kansas City Chiefs Just Yet

Football, NCAAF, CFB, NFL article at Knup Sports

After a 1-2 start to the season fans are worried the Chiefs might not be as dominant this year. Here’s why you shouldn’t worry about the former AFC Champions.

A 1-2 for most teams would be time for them to start planning for trades and free-agent signings. Perhaps they’d even start looking for a new head coach, however, that isn’t how the Chiefs see it. They see it as a chance to go out and reclaim the dominance they once had.

The Chiefs are a great team, led by one of the best QBs in the league. After they iron out the key problems I’ll list below, the Chiefs will be back to their former glory. So read on to see why Chiefs fans (and bettors) should still have faith in the Kansas City Chiefs.

For starters, the Chiefs have Patrick Mahomes

Sure, the beginning hasn’t been great in terms of wins. However, Patrick Mahomes is only sixty yards away from throwing for over 1,000 yards in three games. Along with that, he’s tied for second in the NFL in terms of touchdowns thrown.

Also, you shouldn’t forget that the year the Chiefs won the Super Bowl (2019) the Chiefs finished the season 12-4. Just because they’ve lost two games and are at the bottom of the division, doesn’t mean they’ll stay there. Especially because there are only a couple of things that need to be fixed for the Chiefs to be successful.

Have faith in the Andy Reid process

Andy Reid is one of the best offensive minds in NFL history and as the season goes on, he only gets better. There are a couple of issues he’ll need to fix very soon though, the first being the starting running back. Clyde Edwards-Helaire is a good running back, but he turns the ball over too much.

If they want any consistency going forward, perhaps a change in the position would help. You could credit at least one loss to an Edwards-Helaire fumble. They have Darrel Williams and Jerick McKinnon to choose from, they should get a shot. If not, they’ll have to drill fumble recovery drills with the entire offense.

The Josh Gordon signing could prove to be fruitful

For those that haven’t heard, Kansas City signed free-agent WR Josh Gordon. Now, this could prove to be a fruitful addition, solely because it’ll take attention off of Tyreek Hill. Hill hasn’t been able to produce downfield, and Travis Kelce leads the receiving yards with 289. We could potentially see how well he fits with the team on Sunday versus the Eagles.

For the Chiefs to be successful they need to pass the ball. We all know that the best chance for the Chiefs to win is when Mahomes has the ball in his hands. Bringing in Josh Gordon could help Mahomes have another target downfield. Eventually, Tyreek Hill will start to find himself open again and the Chiefs will capitalize on it.
