• Eagles (5-7) still have shot at playoffs despite up and down year
  • Jets (3-8) look to string together 2 wins in a row for the first time this season
  • Jalen Hurts (ankle) not guaranteed to play this week

In the battle of two green teams from East divisions, the Philadelphia Eagles go to East Rutherford hoping to keep their season alive when they face the Jets on Sunday. With a win, they would go into their late bye week poised to make a run at the playoffs. Meanwhile, Gang Green’s playoff hopes are long gone, but a late-season winning streak would get everyone involved in the Jets organization excited for the future.

Eagles vs Jets Matchup at a Glance

Eagles Preview: Survive Until the Bye

Last week the Eagles went into Metlife Stadium flying high to take on the Giants and came out the losers in a 13-7 game where they had four turnovers and Jalen Hurts posted a 17.5 passer rating. This week they take on a Jets team in the same stadium, who have looked better over the last few weeks than in the previous half of the season.

At the moment, Eagles coach Nick Sirianni plans to have Jalen Hurts play, though they are preparing the mullet magician Gardner Minshew to play if Hurts is sidelined. Regardless of who starts on Sunday, expect to see a healthy dosage of the run game as the Eagles have the best rushing offense in the NFL (157.9 yards per game) and the Jets are 26th against the run (128.7 allowed per game).

Jets Preview: Spoiler Season’s Greetings

The 3-8 Jets come into Week 13 looking for another upset, just like when they surprisingly beat the Bengals and the Titans even with Derrick Henry. But unlike those games against division leaders, it’s the time of year for the lesser teams of the NFL to play spoiler to the fringe wildcard teams.

Last week the Jets came from behind to beat the Texans, doing so behind a strong run game. Zach Wilson was not anything special (145 yds, 0 TD 1 INT) last week, he will have to have a better outing if he is to beat a much better Eagles pass defense. Or, at the very least, not commit any turnovers and allow his run game to carry the Jets to victory.

Odds & Free Betting Analysis for This NFL Game

The Eagles are 5-7 ATS and the Jets are 3-8 ATS on the season. That alone implies that the Jets are not always the most trustworthy to cover the spread this year, even though the Eagles are only slightly better. 6.5 is a lot of points in the NFL, but the Eagles can definitely cover that, especially if New York struggles offensively. Ultimately it comes down to two things: 1. Can the Eagles limit their turnovers and 2. Can Zach Wilson generate enough offense to keep the game close?

The Jets are 2-3 ATS at home this year, while the Eagles are 4-3 ATS on the road.

Here is a fun stat that came up in my research: the New York Jets have never beaten the Philadelphia Eagles. They are 0-11 all-time against Philly.

In terms of O/U 45 points is not a lot of points, but the Jets are not a very high-scoring team with Zach Wilson under center. If the Jets are once again lethargic offensively, then that would leave the bulk of the point-scoring on Philly’s shoulders.

And since the Eagles will be playing with either an injured Jalen Hurts or a rusty, off-the-bench Gardner Minshew, there is a good chance they too will not score many points this week. Also if both teams rely heavily on the run, then the game will fly by as each drive chews up more clock than in a pass-happy game. For those reasons, I think the under might be the way to go.
