Looking for Jaguars vs Texans pick and preview for the NFL Week 1 game in Houston. Which first-year head coach has the edge? Which team will exceed expectations this year and shock the entire league? Week 1 should give us a good glimpse at both of these questions and more. For Jacksonville, the #1 overall pick from this year’s draft, Trevor Lawrence out of Clemson, will make his anticipated professional debut as well as former Ohio State Buckeyes Coach, Urban Meyer. On the Texans’ side, David Culley will coach his first-ever game with Tyrod Taylor set to be under center for Houston.

  • How will Trevor Lawrence look in his debut?
  • Which 1st year Head Coach will come out on top?
  • How can Tyrod Taylor revitalize his career?

With both teams entering the season without any real expectations, Jacksonville and Houston look to establish themselves as real threats in a wide-open AFC South. With the uncertainty of Carson Wentz fitting into his new team with the Indianapolis Colts, The Tennessee Titans look like the only stable team in the division.

Though both teams lack experience, they do have a lot of promising young talent. It will be up to both first-year head coaches, Urban Meyer and David Culley, to get the most out of their young guys.

Jaguars Preview: Duval County Ushering in a New Era

The Jacksonville Jaguars open the 2021 season with a completely new outlook. First-year head coach Urban Meyer, who had great success at the collegiate level at Ohio State University will look to translate his success to the NFL. #1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence, who was a star at Clemson, will look to impress in his rookie debut after a shaky preseason. For Jacksonville, building a positive culture with winning habits is a top priority and that starts this Sunday.

Texans Preview: Houston Looking to Put Watson Distractions in Rearview Mirror

Unfortunately for the Houston Texans, quarterback Deshaun Watson has been the top headline all offseason long for the wrong reasons. With pending legal allegations clouding over the star signal-caller, first-year head coach David Culley will look to steer the ship in the right direction with a young team. Veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor will get the nod in Week 1, in his chance to revitalize his career. It seems like every chance he has gotten to be the starter, the injury bug has got to him. Hopefully, for his sake, he is able to stay healthy so we can see his true potential on the field. Week 1 will be the first test for Taylor as he enters his 11th season in the league.

Odds & Free Betting Analysis for This NFL Game

Since both teams are an unknown commodity entering the season, it could be wise to take the underdog Texans on the Moneyline on this one at (+125) especially at home. Keep in mind, home-field advantage could be a real factor once again with almost every stadium allowing fans inside.

Even though David Culley is a head coach for the first time in his career, he does have experience dating all the way back to 1994 as a wide receivers coach. More recently, he served as the assistant coach for the Baltimore Ravens. Tyrod Taylor is also a veteran in the NFL who does have some starting experience as well. I expect him to take care of the ball and make plays with his legs when needed.

The Jaguars on the other hand lack experience at the pro level in both the quarterback position and head coaching. Look for them to make more mistakes than Houston which should ultimately cost them.

The value at (+125) on the Moneyline is decent with the spread (+2.5) being a play as well at (-105). In terms of the total, slamming the under (-110) is the wisest decision. Look for this to be a low-scoring game with lots of punts and turnovers.
