The Kansas City Chiefs are at least off to a better start now compared to a year ago, but it still feels like this team hasn’t played its best football yet.
Andy Reid’s squad found themselves below .500 on two separate occasions last season. They were 1-2 through three weeks, 2-3 through five weeks, and 3-4 through seven weeks. Kansas City finished the regular season on a 9-1 run en route to the AFC Championship Game, where they fell to the Cincinnati Bengals in a heartbreaker.
A slow start did not affect this year’s Chiefs whatsoever, though. They cruised by the Arizona Cardinals 44-21 in Week 1 and held off the Los Angeles Chargers 27-24 in Week 2 to move to 2-0. 10 days later, however, sloppy football and special teams miscues cost KC dearly in a 20-17 road loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
Sports betting launched in The Wheat State back on Sept. 1, and several Kansas sportsbook promos are available to new users upon signing up. This includes a risk-free bet of up to $1,000 from both BetMGM and FanDuel and four risk-free bets from PointsBet worth up to $200 each.
The Chiefs remain one of the prime favorites to win Super Bowl 57. FanDuel gives them the second-best odds at +800, behind only the Buffalo Bills (+500). On top of that, the sportsbook gives Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes the fourth-best MVP odds at +700.
Kansas City will look to improve to 3-1 on the year when they visit Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on NBC Sunday Night Football (8:20 p.m. EST). This will be the first meeting between the clubs since Super Bowl 55, in which Tampa pulled off a 31-9 upset over the defending Super Bowl champions.
Predictions For The Chiefs’ Remaining Regular Season Games
The Chiefs have one of the toughest schedules from here on out, especially from Weeks 4 to 14. Their next five games are all against teams who made the playoffs last year — the Buccaneers, Las Vegas Raiders, Bills, San Francisco 49ers and Tennessee Titans.
Kansas City will then face the surprising Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 10. The Jaguars were football’s worst team in 2020 and 2021, but Trevor Lawrence is off to an excellent start under first-year head coach Doug Pederson. This will not be a cakewalk for K.C. by any means.
After hosting the Jaguars in Week 10, the Chiefs will complete their season series with the Chargers at SoFi Stadium. In Week 11, they’ll host the defending Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams before embarking on a three-game road trip that begins against Cincinnati.
After that, Kansas City will visit the AFC West rival Denver Broncos before concluding the road trip against the Houston Texans in Week 15. The Chiefs will host the Seattle Seahawks and the Broncos in Weeks 16 and 17, respectively, before concluding their regular season with a Week 18 road outing against Las Vegas.
It’s a daunting schedule, no doubt. But the Chiefs are arguably the most balanced team in the league with a prolific Mahomes-led offense and an aggressive and opportunistic defense that has held its ground in the early going.
At this phase, there’s little reason to believe the Chiefs can’t at least match their 2021 regular season win total of 12. The prediction here is that they’ll suffer just four more defeats in the regular season, and those will be against the 49ers, Chargers, Bengals and at home against the Broncos, as Russell Wilson finally leads Denver to its first win over K.C. since 2015.
Playoff Predictions: Chiefs Beat Packers In Super Bowl
The Chiefs will finish as the AFC’s top seed with a 12-5 record, giving them the conference’s lone first-round bye and home field advantage.
Right now, the Chiefs look like the team to beat in the AFC. Many still view the Bills as the favorites in the conference, but they’re dealing with a rash of injuries right now. And secondly, the Bills D must prove that they’re capable of slowing down Mahomes.
So with that all said, the post-Week 3 Chiefs season prediction is that they finish 12-5 en route to a Super Bowl 57 appearance. There, they’ll beat Aaron Rodgers’ Green Bay Packers for a second Lombardi Trophy in four years.
