• Green Bay is looking to bounce back after scoring just 3 points against New Orleans last week
  • The Detroit defense is one to target, letting up 41 points last week
  • Aaron Rodgers is 17-5 all-time against the Lions

Two 0-1 NFC North teams face off on Monday Night Football, as the Lions take on the Packers in Green Bay.

Despite the 38-3 loss in Week 1, the Packers are heavy favorites tonight, and for good reason. We’ve got thoughts on the game and a few of my favorite player props locked in. Let’s finish Week 2 strong!

I was 2-0 with my MNF picks last week, so let’s keep the good times rolling, here is the Lions vs Packers betting preview.

Lions Preview: Things to Know

Lions vs Packers Pick & Preview - NFL Week 2

Detroit lost to San Francisco, 41-33, after a couple of late touchdowns made the game look close.

The most important thing to know heading into this Monday night matchup is that the Lions defense is awful. Last season, they were ranked 32nd on both PFF and DVOA, which equates to the worst in the league.

They’ve picked up right where they left off, allowing the Niners to gash the defense repeatedly. Since that game, Detroit lost one of their promising corners, Jeff Okudah, for the season.

There are no indications to suggest the Lions are suddenly going to figure out a way to stop elite offenses, so the advantage is clearly in the Packers favor.

With that being said, if you want to bet on Lions player props, I’ve consolidated some data for your planning.

I recommend targeting a Detroit player in the passing game. Game script suggests this could get ugly quick for the Lions, forcing the team to throw for much of the game.

My Prop Pick Suggestion

Earlier this weekend I put out my official props for Week (@griffybets on Twitter), and settled on just two Packers players.

Still, after looking at the above numbers, there’s a lot to like from this Lions offense in terms of value.

D’Andre Swift in particular could be in for a big game, dominating snaps last week and serving as more of a pass-catcher out of the backfield (despite identical catches to Jamaal Williams).

Therefore, I don’t think you can go wrong targeting any of the above bets for Swift. 4.5 receptions at +120 is particularly juicy.

Packers Preview: Things to Know

Lions vs Packers Pick & Preview - NFL Week 2

I’m not going to break down Green Bay’s statistics like I did above because this is an extremely top-heavy offense.

You know the names: Aaron Rodgers, Aaron Jones, Davante Adams.

I think all three Green Bay studs are in for big games. This is the softest defense in the league, and despite the egg from Week 1, the Packers maintain one of the best offenses in the NFL.

When units of these qualities overlap, it’s time to pounce.

As such, I’m betting on both Jones and Adams to hit their overs as the Packers work to get back on track.

Official Prop Picks

  • Davante Adams OVER 85.5 receiving yards (-115)
  • Aaron Jones OVER 67.5 rushing yards (-115)

Odds & Free Betting Analysis for This Lions vs Packers Game

The odds heavily favor the home-team Packers, which is fair despite the poor Week 1 outing. I’m not going to repeat myself for the sake of hitting a word limit – Green Bay is better on both ends.

I’m not going to put money down myself, since I’ve already driven across state borders to legally bet, but I’m confident enough in this pick to put it on my record: the pick here is to bet the Packers to cover the -11.5.

I also think Green Bay’s team total is worth consideration, currently listed at 30.5 points. I don’t care about the 3 points last week, this is an elite offense facing a dreadful defense.
