Hello and welcome to our Patriots vs Jets prediction and picks! What to expect from this match and what to bet on?
- Rough losses for both teams Week 1
- Battle of the rookie QBs
- Star lineman Mekhi Becton out for the Jets
As the first week of the National Football League comes to a conclusion, teams look to review Week 1 game footage, improve, and get ready for the following week. On Sunday, at 1 PM ET, the New York Jets will host the New England Patriots for an exciting Week 2 matchup in MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Both teams aspire to bounce back from close yet disappointing losses, as the Jets lost 19-14 against the Carolina Panthers and the Patriots lost 17-16 against the Miami Dolphins. Both rookie Mac Jones and rookie Zach Wilson are coming off average games but each seeks to improve his game for Week 2 to avoid a winless record.

Patriots vs Jets Prediction: Spread
Though both teams will come out guns blazing in hopes to win their first game of the regular season, I believe the Patriots are deservingly favored in this game. Though the point spread is a hefty -6, the Patriots have what it takes on the defensive and offensive side to pull it off. Mac Jones has looked efficient and he will lead the Patriots to beat the Jets by more than 6.

Patriots vs Jets Prediction: MoneyLine
The last time Patriots head coach Bill Belichick started off a season with two consecutive losses was all the way back in 2001. Though seven-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady is gone, coach Belichick will figure out a game plan to take out the Jets on Sunday. Furthermore, rookie quarterback Mac Jones has an above-average showing in Week 1 as he threw the ball for 281 yards and one touchdown on a roughly 75% completion rate. Jones was not the reason for New England’s loss on Sunday, rather it was because of Damien Harris’ fumble at the 9-yard line as the Patriots were down 1 with 3:35 remaining. Had the fumble not occurred, the Patriots were marching down the field ready to score and take the lead on the Dolphins. Therefore, because of a little mistake, the Patriots were forced to start their season 0-1.
On the brighter side, the Patriots’ secondary looked very good even though Stephon Gilmore is on the PUP list. Corners JC Jackson and Jalen Mills were able to hold Tua Tagovailoa to only 200 yards, one touchdown, and one interception on a poor completion rate of 59%. The Patriots defense looks to step it up once again this year and Zach Wilson will face their wrath.
On the other hand, though the Jets had their above-average moments in their first regular-season game, rookie quarterback Zach Wilson will face intense pressure from the Patriots defensive line as the Jets offensive line showed tremendous weakness. The Jets also have a very weak running game as their three major backs: Tevin Coleman, Ty Johnson, and Michael Carter all combined for only 45 yards and averaged only 2.6 YPC. The Jets have a lot to improve on this season.

Patriots vs Jets Prediction: Total
The total for this matchup is 42.5 points, which is relatively high, considering both the Jets’ and Patriots’ week 1 matchup only scored 33 points each. I believe the strong Patriots secondary in combination with the inexperienced Jets offense will not reach that 43.5 point mark. Zach Wilson will most likely throw multiple interceptions which will inhibit them from ever driving down the field and scoring. Therefore, I would bet the under for this game.
