Football is back! After the annual Pro Football Hall of Fame Game last Thursday featuring the Cowboys and Steelers, we now look forward to the second week of preseason football. The New England Patriots will play host to the visiting Washington Football Team. You better get ready for our Patriots vs Washington pick!

This marks the first time since 2019 that these two teams will play each other, and we should be in for a good matchup. There are going to be a ton of big names playing for both teams tonight that will be getting back to action and hopefully staying healthy.

New England Patriots

After an abysmal year and missing the playoffs for the first time since 2008 and having a losing record for the first time since 2000, the Patriots are looking to turn the franchise around quickly.

Many people thought that losing Tom Brady wouldn’t hurt this team because of how bad he was in 2019, but that was far from the case. He went on to win another Superbowl with Tampa Bay and the Patriots were left with the shell of Cam Newton throughout the 2020 season.

This will be the first time that we get to see the first-round draft pick Mac Jones in action for the Patriots. Although Cam Newton and the first team players will most likely kick things off, Mac Jones will be playing a majority of the game against a very well-coached team.

The Pats are heading into this game with Hunter Henry out on a day-to-day basis with a shoulder injury, and Stephon Gilmore out with a quad injury.

Washington Football Team

The Football Team finally won the tough NFC East…said no one ever. They finished with a 7-9 record that was good enough to win them the division and have them host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round of the playoffs.

Taylor Heinicke was the star that night as he put up a shocking 306 passing yards in a close defeat to the eventual super bowl champions. Nobody expected him to make that much noise, and he will most likely be getting a majority of the snaps tonight as well to see if he has what it takes to be the full-time starter.

The Football Team did bring in veteran QB Ryan Fitzpatrick who will be starting the game as well, to see if he can be able to lead this team back to the playoffs for a 2nd straight year.

Newly picked up WR from the Panthers Curtis Samuel has been put on the injury list with a groin injury.

Betting Odds

Washington is currently sitting as favorites at (-135) on the moneyline compared to (+115) for the Patriots.

The O/U is 34.5 with -125 for the over and +105 for the under.

Patriots vs Washington Pick

Personally, knowing that teams don’t really use the preseason to put up points on the board, I would definitely put a bet on the under for the O/U. There’s no chance that they get enough points to even come close to the 34.5 and anything short of that could win some money for you.

Ron Rivera, coach of the Washington Football Team, wants to use this game to test out his starters, so I expect them to play a majority of the 1st quarter and build up a substantial lead. But the Patriots are also well-coached, and will be testing out Mac Jones who they think is their franchise guy down the road.

It will come down to the wire in my opinion but I do think that the Washington Football Team will walk away with the win here. There is the chance that Mac Jones absolutely wows everyone and is able to replicate the success he had at Alabama.
