- How will Geno Smith look this week?
- Saints are incredible off the bye
- DK Metcalf against a depleted Saints secondary
Without Russell Wilson, the Seattle Seahawks have looked like the 2008 Seahawks with Matt Hasstleback. Last week, Smith had a good game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, throwing for 209 yards, a touchdown, and a 99.6 QBR. But without starting running back Chris Carson, everything is on his shoulders.
As for the Saints, they are coming off a bye week, which is probably their biggest advantage entering this game. In the last five seasons, the saints have been 4-0, 3-1, 4-0, 4-0 and 3-1, losing two of their sixteen games following a bye. I know Drew Brees was the quarterback throughout those years, but that is still insane and shows Sean Payton’s ability to coach off the bye.

Saints Preview: Saints win a lot off the bye
The Saints have been average this season when it comes to getting after the quarterback. They are tied for 12th in QB hits and place 16th in pressure percentage up to this point in the season.
Those numbers are relevant because of how awful the Seattle Seahawks are at defending their own quarterback. They allowed Smith to get sacked five times in week six and roughed up eight with countless pressures. Even a pedestrian Saints rush should be feasting come Monday.
Seahawks Preview: Run game has to get established
The Saints have a stellar secondary, so running the ball will be key. Unfortunately, the Seahawks starter Alex Collins, who carried the ball 20 times for 101 yards and a touchdown, might not be available. As of Saturday, his groin has kept him out of two straight practices. He will be a game-time decision come Monday.
I guess it doesn’t matter how you try to attack the Saint’s defence. They are good in all aspects. Against the rush this season, they have only given up 3.3 YPC and 79.0 YPG, making them the second-best in the league.
As for Seattle’s defence, it also isn’t the same as that 2008 squad. Although not the worst in the league, their biggest weakness is the defensive line. Up to this point, that unit ranks 20th in YPC and 30th in YPG, definitely not solid.
Odds & Free Betting Analysis for This NFL Game
With the normal cast of characters Seattle puts out, I would likely side with them just based on experience and the trust Russell Wilson has earned over the years. But without those guys and the dominance Sean Payton has shown after a bye week.
The Saints have to be the unanimous pick around the league. Their defence should hold up, and as long as they can get something going on offence, they will probably be fine.
