In his third season with the Browns, the three-time Pro Bowler is ready to move on.
The NFL world was rocked Friday afternoon when news broke that the Cleveland Browns would drop Odell Beckham Jr to waivers, leaving many wondering how it got to this point.
The relationship between the two sides started to deteriorate following his father’s Instagram post outlining current Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield’s missed throws to his son.

General Manager Andrew Berry released a statement thanking Beckham Jr for his time in Cleveland. He added that the relationship between the two sides had reached a point where it was best to move on.
“After careful consideration, internal discussions and conversations with Odell and his representation, we’ve determined that it is in the best interest of all parties involved that Odell no longer plays for the Cleveland Browns,” said Andrew Berry.
“We appreciate all his efforts and contributions well in Cleveland, but we’ve just reached a point where it is best that we move forward as a team without Odell.”
Now that the 3x Pro-Bowler has been released, it’s a waiting game from here to see some potential landing spots. In the NFL, when a player is released, he can’t be claimed by another team until the following Monday at 4 pm.
There is also a waiver priority list to consider, which means specific teams have the right to claim him before others based on the standings after the third week. It works out so that the team with the worst record gets priority on all waiver claims, the team with the next worse record gets second priority on all waiver claims, and so on.
Currently, the top five teams who will have first dibs at the former Brown are the Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, and New York Jets.
If a team does not pick up Beckham Jr. through waivers, he will become a free agent and can then sign with any team he desires.
