The Ohio State Buckeyes are the preseason ranked number-two team in all of college football. The Buckeyes are just below last year’s National Champion runner-up Alabama Crimson Tide. Alabama’s dominance in college football is well-documented, but this year the team with the most firepower in college football is the Ohio State University.
The Most Complete Offensive In The Country
The most dangerous component of Ohio State this season is its offense. Ohio State has a top five, if not arguably, the best player at each offensive skill position. The Buckeyes have quarterback CJ Stroud, running back Treveyon Henderson, and wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njiba. Not to mention that Ohio State’s offensive line should be one of the best in the nation this year with tackle Dawand Jones and Paris Johnson Jr.
Last season, Ohio State have the most prolific offense in all of college football. The Buckeyes had the most yards per game and the most points per game. Ohio State may have lost the likes of Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson to the NFL draft. However, another season for Stroud, Henderson, and Smith-Njiba will likely only see their game go up to another level, and if it does, they may become unstoppable.
Defense Is Comparable To The Elites
So much was talked about Ohio State’s offense that the defense was not talked about enough. Typically the defense was only talked about when they were making mistakes. to be fair, Ohio State’s defense is the reason why they did not go farther than they did, but this season their defense should be just as comparable to Alabama’s, Georgia’s, and Clemson’s that they are going to have to face the playoffs.
The Georgia Bulldogs’ defense last season was historically great, and there will likely be no defense this season that is on that type of level, allowing Ohio State’s offense to have a better chance at winning every single game this season. As long as Ohio State can hold teams to 20 or fewer points, the offense can do the rest.
They Will Be Tested Early
An issue with Ohio State in the past has been not facing tough competition until midway through the season. Ohio State is very familiar with destroying smaller teams in the beginning this season, such as Akron, Florida Atlantic, and Bowling Green. However, this season Ohio State opens the season up on September 3rd against number five ranked Notre Dame.
Notre Dame is the perfect match-up for Ohio State to prepare themselves for the grind that will be the Big Ten season. Ohio State lost in embarrassing fashion to the Michigan Wolverines in the last game of the regular season, which has to have left a horrible taste in the Buckeyes’ mouth. Starting the season with a game-of-the-week battle-testing matchup is the perfect way to begin a road of revenge that culminates in a national championship.
