With a new league and many rule changes, some fans transitioning from the NFL to the XFL may be confused. There is an endless supply of important information regarding the XFL, and I’m here to give you the baseline.

- Arlington Renegades
- D.C. Defenders
- Houston Roughnecks
- Orlando Guardians
- San Antonio Brahmas
- Seattle Sea Dragons
- St. Louis Battlehawks
- Vegas Vipers
Familiar NFL Faces
There is a multitude of players that played in the biggest football league in the world that found themselves in the XFL. Each player was capable at their job but may find stardom in a new environment.
The most notable of the Quarterbacks is Aj McCarron of the St. Louis Battlehawks, a former star Alabama quarterback who spent significant time in the league. He spent 6 seasons backing up the likes of Andy Dalton and Deshaun Watson, then never to see the NFL field again. His experience and name value may be very helpful to the organization in coaching and ticket sales.
The second biggest name at quarterback is Ben DiNucci, quarterback for the Seattle Sea Dragons. He was an NFL quarterback much more recently, even starting a game during Dak Prescott’s injury in 2020. He should also be an incredible asset.
Outside of quarterback, four names should be very nostalgic to some younger NFL fans. Martavius Bryant, Vic Beasley, Cody Latimer, and Marquette King are all on XFL rosters. Whether it be circumstance or injury, these players had success in the NFL and end up at the top of XFL rosters.
There are some very drastic changes to traditional football in this league, so getting some of those rules out of the way may be helpful.
When it comes to extra points, you can earn more points depending on how far away you want to attempt a running or passing play. You can earn one point if you get in the endzone from the 2-yard line, you earn 2 points from the 5-yard line, and you earn 3 points from the 10.
Kickoffs remain similar to the NFL in many ways, but there is one major difference. In the 4th quarter, after you score, a team has the option to attempt a 4th and 15 play from their own 25 yard line. If that play fails, the opponent gets the ball on the opponent’s 25, making for a much easier drive.
There are two forward passes allowed on the same play, as long as the first pass doesn’t exceed the line of scrimmage. This means any swing or flat route can turn into a double pass, so long as the ball does not cross the line of scrimmage until the second pass is thrown.
Those are the most drastic changes to the game, with many more that affect the game just as much. The XFL is going to be an amazing league to watch, and getting to know the basics beforehand should make your viewing experience even more entertaining.
