The St. Louis Blues won a much-needed game four behind a great performance by Jordan Binnington. Read below to see the recap of game four of the win over the Minnesota Wild.

When the St. Louis Blues needed a win most, they delivered. On Mother’s Day, Sunday, the St. Louis Blues rallied together to win game four in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Jordan Binnington, who had not played since the loss against the Colorado Avalanche, started in game four and made 28 saves en route to the 4-2 victory.

Binnington faced 30 shots and has likely won the goaltending job back, for the foreseeable future.

Since his miraculous 2019 Stanley Cup run, Binnington was 0-9 in the playoffs and held a 4.19 goals-against average. While it has been a while since Binnington has seen the ice and playoff hockey, that did not hold him back.

“It felt good, I felt prepared,” Binnington said. “We had a good start to the game, a really good first period. Definitely a big win, a hard-fought win. We had guys step in the lineup, but I felt pretty good.

In his career, Binnington is now 8-1-1 against the Minnesota Wild.

Jordan Kyrou shines offensively

A difference-maker in the NHL Winter Classic and for most of the season for St. Louis, Jordan Kyrou stepped up on Sunday with two goals to lead St. Louis. Kyrou scored the first goal of the game at 4:19 in the first period. His initial shot was blocked by Marc Andre Fleury but Kyrou grabbed his own rebound and put it in the back of the net.

Kirill Kaprizov scored his fifth goal of the series to tie the game at 14:06 in the first period. St. Louis overwhelmingly outplayed Minnesota in the first period but the Wild managed to keep the game tied.

David Perron scored his fourth goal of the series to put the Blues back ahead at 10:30 in the second period. 56 seconds later,  Kyrou scored his second goal of the day and arguably his best this year.

Matt Boldy would score early in the third period to pull the game back to a one-score advantage in favor of St. Louis but the Blues would score the final two goals. David Perron scored his second of the day and fifth of the series on an empty-net and Ryan O’Reilly scored in the final minute, to give his mom a great Mother’s Day present.

Hold your horses

Sunday afternoon was a must-win game for St. Louis. If the Blues happen to lose that game, the series is virtually over with the Wild holding a 3-1 lead. As the series heads back to Minnesota, St. Louis is waiting on the word from Nick Leddy and Robert Bortuzzo.

Leddy has not played since taking a hard hit against the glass in game one and Bortuzzo went down after taking a puck to the face in game two. For St. Louis, it does not get much better as Torey Krug is likely out for the rest of the season with an upper-body injury and Marco Scandella had to leave Sunday’s game with an injury.

For a defense that is as beat up as the Blues, it is a miracle they have a chance in this series. With Binnington in net and possibly receiving Leddy and Bortuzzo back, the finishing games are about to get more interesting.

Game five and six information

Hopefully, no one was planning for an early night because the next two games will start at 8:30 p.m. CT. Yet again, the late nights of watching playoff hockey return with game five in Minnesota and game six back in St. Louis.
