Lightning vs Hurricanes Game 5 Preview
When the Lightning take the ice tomorrow night they will have one thing on their minds: win this game and move on. On the other hand, when the Hurricanes step on the ice they will be thinking about winning this game gives them another opportunity, and if they capitalize on that, then another opportunity presents itself a couple of days later.
- Is the Stanley Cup too violent?
They want one more chance. One more battle for the puck in the corner. It’s on them to make it happen.
Game 4 was an absolute joy and pleasure to watch for the audience surrounding the NHL. Heading into the 2nd period the Lightning led 1-0 with a goal scored by Brayden Point. With 8 minutes remaining in the 2nd period, the Hurricanes took a commanding 4-2 lead. Well, what we thought was a commanding lead.
The Lightning refused to fade away and bounced back with three unanswered goals of their own to close out the 2nd period. They proceeded to win the game with a final score of 6-4 in favor of the Lightning.
Prior to the series, I predicted that the Lightning would come out on top purely out of the fact that they collectively hold more experience coming off a year in which they successfully captured the Stanley Cup. Given the series lead of 3-1, I hold true to that prediction and believe it will still be carried out.
However, I suspect the Hurricanes will send the series back to Tampa Bay for a game 6. With the exception of game 4, all other games involved in the series have been decided by a one-goal differential.
- Game 1: Lightning win 2-1
- Game 2: Lightning win 2-1
- Game 3: Hurricanes win 3-2
- Game 4: Lightning win 6-4
These games tell a certain story and although the Hurricanes have fallen the majority of the times, they have the potential to outlast the defending champions. In the low-scoring affairs, the Hurricanes stuck with the Lightning and in their one high-scoring contest they proved to have a high-powered offense as well.
Wrapping Things Up
The season is on the line for the Hurricanes Tuesday night. They hope to provide themselves another opportunity while the Lightning seek a second straight Eastern Conference Finals appearance. Will the Hurricanes be able to provide some traffic for the Lightning on their journey, or will the defending champs be able to coast right through?
Free Pick: Hurricanes ML (+103)
