This past week featured many NHL stars showcasing their skills. This week there are some players that helped their team get back on track, some doing their part regardless of the team’s outcome, and others that shut the door on opposing teams’ offenses.

What separates these three stars from their competitors is the impact that they make on their teams. The following three stars of the week are making immediate impacts for their franchises early in the 2021-22 season.

THIRD NHL STAR: Adam Henrique (C) Anaheim Ducks

Adam Henrique had himself a stellar week for the Ducks. He was able to bury three goals while delivering two helpers as well. Unfortunately for Henrique, the Ducks were only able to obtain one win this week.

Henrique is one of the Ducks’ top offensive weapons and he is finding ways to impact the games more than just goals and assists. He is a versatile forward that is able to line up as a center or a winger.

He finished the week a plus one and hovered around a 75% faceoff win percentage. A major factor in the Ducks powerplay game, the Ontario native is riding a three-game point streak. Anaheim’s veteran center is well-deserving of the third star of the week for his performances.

SECOND NHL STAR: Alex Killorn (LW) Tampa Bay Lightning

The Canadian left winger helped the Lightning find their winning ways this week. He dominated around the net and finished with four goals on the week. Killorn provided some playmaking abilities as well with his two assists.

Alex ultimately helped the Lightning get two wins this past week. His point production was a direct result of Tampa’s success. He isn’t shy about trying to score, in his past three games Killorn recorded 10 shots on the net.

With the Tampa Bay Lightning currently dealing with the injury to Nikita Kucherov, Alex has slid right into a consistent offensive role. As a top-six forward on the defending Stanley Cup Champions, Killorn will look to keep his production consistent throughout this season.

FIRST NHL STAR: Jacob Markstrom (G) Calgary Flames

Talk about a brick wall! Jacob Markstrom was the epitome of a shutdown goalie this past week. He finished the week with a 3-0-0 record and his Flames sit firmly in first place in their division. What makes Markstrom’s performance this week so special is the fact that in his 3-0-0 record, he recorded two shutouts.

In his other win against the Rangers, he only allowed one goal. This past week he made the Rangers, Penguins, and Flyers not happy when shooting against him in the net. Opposing offenses should be on high alert when Markstrom is in the net because goals will not come easy.

With a .988 save percentage on the week, Markstrom has quickly cemented himself as an elite goaltender in the National Hockey League. If he can maintain this consistent play and keep the Flames at the top of the standings, a Vezina Trophy may be in his future.
