The St. Louis Blues beat the Minnesota Wild in the 2022 Discover Winter Classic by a score of 6-4. Check out our recap on the Blues big win and their wild weekend.

A Wild Weekend For St. Louis In Minnesota

It was a wild night on Saturday for the Blues in their win over Minnesota. The pun was totally intended here, but nonetheless, St. Louis picked up a much-needed win on the big stage Saturday evening. It was a dominant performance by St. Louis with help from a rising star on the team.

Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota was the scene for the 2022 Discover Winter Classic. This game was supposed to be played last year but due to the coronavirus, the game was pushed back a year. It is now on record, officially the coldest hockey game ever played in the NHL, -8 real temperature. It beat the record for the coldest outdoor sporting event in Minnesota history, previously set by the Vikings and Seahawks in 2016 at -6.

David Perron got the Blues on the board first with a goal at 14:29 in the first period. Not even 30 seconds later Kirill Kaprizov tied the game on a shot off Niko Mikkola’s stick. It was the second-period barrage by St. Louis that put them in the driver’s seat for the rest of the game.

Jordan Kyrou

It is Jordan Kyrou’s world and we are just living in it. Kyrou got the party started in the second period scoring 27 seconds into the period. That would be one of his four points in the second period, which made Winter Classic history for the most points in a game by one player. Kyrou only needed one period to break that record. Kyrou assisted on the next two goals by Vladimir Tarasenko and Ivan Barbashev.

His most impressive play of the night came on his fourth point, and his second goal at 17:58 in the second period. The Blues had a great entry into the Minnesota zone and Kyrou set himself up at the short left point, staying patient he rifled a wrist shot into the top right corner of the net. Jordan Kyrou made history on that goal, his fourth point of the night and in the period.

If hockey fans did not know who Jordan Kyrou was before, they definitely do now. Kyrou made a name for himself on one of the biggest stages in hockey.

“It’s unbelievable,” Kyrou said. “Any time you get to play in the Winter Classic, it’s pretty cool. Growing up as a kid, it’s something you always watch and dream of playing in.”

First Place Blues

Not only did Jordan Kyrou take advantage of playing on the big stage, but so did the entire team looking and feeling cool on Saturday. The St. Louis Blues showed up to the game all in beach attire. From flip flops and shades to Hawaiian shirts and shorts, the Blues had it all in their dress attire.

Vladimir Tarasenko loved the idea and the execution of the beach dress attire.

“It just put us together more. We know we’re responsible for a good game after (doing that). It was pretty cool to see your teammates in a different outfit. It was a lot of positive emotions before the game.”

If you are looking for a lumberjack shirt, Jordan Binnington has you covered. He had previously ordered 30 shirts, but the team decided to go with the beachwear instead, so if you are interested in one, reach out to Binnington and he may just hook you up.

Our good friend and very own Rodney Knuppel was able to travel and cover the game for Knup Sports this last weekend. Rodney was able to partake in the media skate on Thursday night and watched both teams practice on Friday. Rodney had great coverage of the game and everything happening this weekend for the 2022 Discover Winter Classic. Below are a few pictures from Rodney’s trip.
