Arsenal will play host to Tottenham on Sunday, September 26, in the sixth round of the 2021/22 Premier League. It will mark the 169th edition of the North London derby and a crucial match for the Gunners, who seek their third consecutive win of the season.
Arsenal enter the match with a 2-0-3 record and six points, which is good for 13th place in the standings; meanwhile, Tottenham have managed three points more with a 3-0-2 record and now sit in seventh. Despite holding a better record, Tottenham haven’t won in their last two league outings, while Arsenal picked up six points over the same stretch.
Will the Gunners manage to keep their wheels spinning and add another W, or will they get stopped in their track by their arch-rivals?

Arsenal Preview: Gaining Traction
Following an abysmal start to the 2021/22 Premier League season, Arsenal started gaining some traction and entered this match on the back of two 1-0 victories against Norwich and Burnley. Much of their improvement is thanks to the return of the Brazilian centre-back, Gabriel, who added stability to Arsenal’s backline.
The improvement in the back was required, seeing how Arsenal have leaked seven goals in their season openers. That run includes a 0-2 loss against Chelsea and a 0-5 defeat against Manchester City.
While a terrible way to start the season, we have to give Arsenal some slack. The Gunners could have done better, but they had to face two UEFA Champions League finalists.
On a more positive note, Arsenal have looked improved in their last two league outings. Adding to that, they also collected a straightforward (3-0) win against AFC Wimbledon in the EFL Cup on Wednesday, having beaten West Brom (6-0) in the previous round.
While all weaker teams than Tottenham, Arsenal deserve praise for showing some life. However, it remains to be seen whether they will manage to keep their wheels spinning.
Tottenham Preview: Not Looking Too Sharp
Tottenham are heading in the opposite direction than Arsenal. The Spurs started the 2021/22 Premier League season with three solid wins against Manchester City (1-0), Wolverhampton (1-0), and Watford (1-0), but have since cooled down quite significantly.
In their last two league outings, Tottenham lost against Crystal Palace (0-3) and Chelsea (0-3), which isn’t a good look. But, most concerning, the Spurs have conceded six goals, which won’t do them any favours on Sunday.
Regarding their performances outside of the Premier League, things don’t look much better. Just over a week ago, Tottenham managed only a draw against Rennes (2-2) in the Europa Conference League and needed penalties to edge past Wolves (3-2) in the 1/16 finals of the EFL Cup on Wednesday.
Tottenham are in bad shape and don’t look nearly as potent as a few weeks back. Even though they will face a team that hasn’t achieved much on the season, the Spurs will need to step up their game if they wish to collect all three points this weekend.
Odds & Free Betting Analysis for This Premier League Game
Tottenham are struggling with their form and are travelling to the ground where they haven’t won a single league match since 2010. The only exception to their terrible away record is a 2-0 victory in the EFL Cup quarter-finals in 2018.
If we look only at the Premier League matches at Emirates Stadium, Tottenham are 0-4-6 since November 2010. That’s concerning, knowing that Tottenham haven’t done well on the road this season either.
The visitors are 2-1-2 in their last five trips across all competition. The only two wins over that stretch came against Wolves.
Arsenal need all three points, and for Mikel Arteta, losing on Sunday isn’t an option if he wishes to keep his job. The Gunners have done well against Tottenham at home before and seem like they have turned the corner, so it’s hard to doubt their chances to collect all three points.
