The midweek was a bee-hive of activities as top teams in England battled out in the knockout to determine the clubs advancing to the EFL Cup quarter-finals. As one of the top-tier domestic cup competitions in England, the competition has been there since 1960–61.
The cup attracts 92 clubs from the Premier League and English Football League. The latest edition saw big clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United who are also the defending champions get eliminated in the knockout stages.
Newcastle United under Eddie Howe hammered Manchester United 3-0 despite United enjoying their home tough advantage. Earlier, Newcastle had beaten Manchester City eliminating them from the competition.
Liverpool beat the struggling Bournemouth by 2-1 pushing them out of the competition. Goals from Dawin Nunez and Cody Gakpo helped Klopp’s men advance to the semi-finals. Conversely, West Ham eliminated Arsenal by 3-1 with Martin Odegaard consoling the Gunners with a later strike.
Chelsea FC and Everton Bounced Back To Winning Ways
The Blues managed 2 goals against the stubborn Blackburn Rovers with Biadillishe and Raheem Sterling finding the net pushing them to the quarter finals. The blues have been struggling despite the new changes but still look bright and may bounce back.
In another showdown, Everton beat Burnley to book their place in the semi-finals. Goals from Onana, James, and Young found the net allowing Everton to earn an easy win against Burnley. The toffees had an emotional night at Goodison Park and will be part of the eight teams advancing to the quarter finals.
Port Vale and Middlesbrough are the other two teams that qualified for the semi-finals.

The quarter-finals for the Carabao Cup are set to take place from 18th Dec 2023. All the qualifying teams have already been paired for the action. Everton will play against Fulham as the Toffees aim to secure their semi-final spot.
