Many players from the Manchester United squad left Manchester to help their international teams succeed in qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. There have been many interesting developments from the players and teams of players from Manchester United.

Let’s look at the most interesting news to come out of this weekend’s world cup qualifiers.

Newsworthy Headlines

Paul Pogba Injury – France

Many Manchester United and French fans shared the frustration of the footage of Paul Pogba injuring his leg during a shooting drill at practice. It hasn’t been told how serious the injury is, but there have been reports that it could be close to six to eight weeks on the sidelines.

This doesn’t include the time to get back to match form. As Manchester United look to change their fortunes, this doesn’t bode well for a team losing their star midfielder. Expect Ole Solskjaer to mix things up by giving teammates like Donny Van de Beek more opportunities to shine in Pogba’s absence

Harry Macguire Silencing the Critics – England

Harry Maguire was able to score a header in England’s 10-0 rout of San Marino. Maguire was under fire after scoring the first goal of the game and celebrating by putting his hands to his ears to mock his critics of his play in recent weeks with Manchester United.

This was a gross, unprofessional gesture from a player who deservedly has received criticism for his poor play. He has not acted like the captain with his demeanor and quality of play. A gesture to mock his haters in what turned out to be a 10-0 is laughable. Scoring against San Marino will not make Manchester United forget about how unorganized the defense has been for the Red Devils.

Ronaldo on the Verge of Missing World Cup 2022 – Portugal

Portugal fell to Serbia 2-1 in a game where they were up 1-0 with a second-minute goal by Renato Sanchez. Serbia was able to equalize in the first half and then win the game in stoppage time in the second half.

Portugal, who finished second in their group, will play in a four-team playoff to decide who will make the World Cup. They will need to win both games to advance. Italy is another team that will be in a playoff. Portugal will be hoping that they don’t share the same group for the playoff.

Ronaldo looked visibly upset throughout the game with his teammates and the coach. There were a few times where Ronaldo was open and didn’t receive a pass that would’ve set him up nicely for a goal-scoring opportunity. The camera showed Ronaldo having a stern conversation with his manager after the final whistle.
