Manchester United moved up to seventh in the Premier League Table after their 3-2 victory against Arsenal on Thursday. Read further for a match recap and key learnings for Manchester United after this match.

Game Recap

Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes helped give the Red Devils their sixth win of the season. This was a much needed win for a Manchester United squad who has struggled greatly in the Premier League. They have been able to tie the league leaders, Chelsea, and now, beat the fifth place, Arsenal, in their past two games.

Emile Smith Rowe got the scoring started off for Arsenal in the 13th minute on an obscure play that left the Manchester United goal wide open. On a corner, Red Devil midfielder, Fred, stepped on United goalkeeper David De Gea’s foot which left him writhing on the ground in pain. The ball was cleared out to Smith Rowe who took a shot on goal and scored.

The referee had no choice but to award the goal since it was Fred who had stepped on De Gea.

Bruno Fernandes leveled the score in the 44th minute just before the half on a nice finish from a ground cross from Fred to make it 1-1. Ronaldo made it 2-1 after halftime in the 52nd minute off another ground cross from Marcus Rashford this time. Martin Odegaard answered to make it 2-2 on a very similar cross for Arsenal.

Manchester United needed some magic and Cristiano Ronaldo was there to provide it once again. Fred was fairly rewarded a penalty which gave Ronaldo the opportunity to step up and put United on top in the 70th minute.

He stepped up and took it with class as Manchester United celebrated their hero near the corner flag. The game ended 3-2 with a much-needed United victory.

Key Learnings

Ronaldo’s Cemented Position in the Lineup

Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t start in United’s last match against Chelsea which gave Michael Carrick much backlash from fans and commentators. After another great performance from the Portuguese striker, it is apparent that Manchester United need him in the lineup regularly to keep their hopes of winning alive.

Ralf Rangnick is the new manager who will take the reins for the rest of the season, and he is already impressed with Cristiano Ronaldo’s fitness and performance. I expect Rangnick to use Ronaldo in a special way to help provide even more success for him personally and Manchester United as a whole.

Ralf Rangnick has Many Options for his Lineup

Rangnick will be joining this Manchester United squad with plenty of time to turn this season around. They are in seventh place and twelve points off the lead, but there is a lot of football to be played in this season. Injuries have allowed for players like Diogo Dalot and Jadon Sancho to get more playing time and show what they can provide for this team.

Next Matchup

Manchester United will take on Crystal Palace who are in 11th place at Old Trafford on Sunday at 9 am EST. Champions League play will return next week for United’s last group stage game against Young Boys.
