The MLS is Back tournament is back in action after being suspended as a result of the coronavirus hiatus.
On Tuesday, July 20 – 10:30 PM ET, the Montreal Impact will take on DC United in the final game of the group stage for Group C. The game will be played at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando.
The Montreal Impact is currently last in the group with 0 points after losing both games since the return of Major League Soccer. Their main strengths are reliable defense and their ability to score a lot on average per game. However, they still need improvement in the game to get them ahead of the championship leaders.
Thierry Henry’s team lost the Canadian Derby to Toronto FC on Thursday. However, it was a seven-goal thriller, and Montreal netted three goals after displaying more attacking attempts against Toronto. If they are looking to win DC United, Montreal should look for a fast start and display similar effort in offense and beat the defense of the other team.
DC United drew both games and stands third in the group with 2 points. They have not lost a single game in nine of their last ten games and scored in the second half in each of their last five games. They also tied in their last three away games. Their lethal offense and consistent defense make them the clear favorite to win this game.
While a loss will result in neither advancing to the knockout stage, a draw would pull down the Impact and United’s chance to advance increases. Ben Olsen gladly reported that the team was in a good mental state.
United has always performed stronger after the break in both games. Hence, they will want to avoid difficult situations they have faced this season, like having a slow first half. If they stay strong throughout the whole game, they have a very high chance of beating Montreal.
Manager and Player Comparison
Henry and Olsen have a lot in common when it comes to coaching soccer. They are both sharp guys who are always in the process of figuring out and thinking of how they are going to go about winning games. Both are very strategic when it comes to tactics and the lineup. They never underestimate their opponents and try their best to come up with a way to win.
DC United’s Super-Sub
Montreal’s roster is comprised of younger talents compared to that of United’s. However, from their experience and chemistry, United is improving every day as a team and looking for mistakes to enhance their game.
They even have a ‘super-sub,’ Federico Higuain, in their substitution. He scored in both games after coming off the bench and reported that he is going to play as hard as he can as it is going to be the most important game for them in the tournament.
The Montreal Impact has not won a single game against DC United in the last four games that they have faced each other. United took two victories, winning 3-0 at Montreal in their latest meeting.
United can take advantage of Montreal’s weakened defense as the Impact’s center back Rudy Camacho and defensive midfield Steeven Saba are out due to injuries. Hence, DC United should be the winner of this crucial match.
