• Newcastle’s first game under new ownership
  • Tottenham have lost to Newcastle only once since 2016
  • The hosts have yet to win a game this season

Newcastle will host Tottenham on Sunday, October 17, at St. James’ Park in the eighth round of the 2021/22 English Premier League. The fixture will mark Newcastle’s first game under new ownership, which has made the Magpies a team to watch this decade.

Despite the bright future ahead of the team, Newcastle have yet to show anything this term, having failed to win a single league match after seven rounds of play. What’s more, they have managed only three draws over that stretch, putting them in an unenviable position.

The hosts will be desperate to bounce back, but that might be easier said than done, facing the Spurs.

Newcastle Preview: Bright Future in Tough Times

Newcastle’s future looks very bright with new management, but that doesn’t save them from the tough times the Magpies are currently in. Newcastle enter Sunday’s match with a 0-3-4 record on the season and three points, which is good for a second-to-last place in the EPL standings.

Their underwhelming record includes losses against West Ham (2-4), Aston Villa (0-2), Manchester United (1-4), and Wolves (1-2) and three draws against Southampton (2-2), Leeds (1-1), and Watford (1-1). Not exactly a good record to hold, and it doesn’t help the situation that Newcastle’s goal difference is at 8-16.

On a more positive note, Newcastle have managed two back-to-back draws at home, granted those came against Leeds and Southampton, who sit in 16th and 17th place respectively.

Tottenham Preview: Flying High

Tottenham have gone through a rough patch, as they were on a three-game losing streak in the domestic league not too long ago. Over that stretch, the Spurs lost against Crystal Palace (0-3), Chelsea (0-3), and Arsenal (1-3); however, things are looking up.

In their last league outing, Tottenham picked up a crucial victory against Aston Villa (2-1), helping them get back on their feet, and improve their record to 4-0-3. With that, the Spurs are at 12 points on the season, good for eighth place in the EPL standings.

Admittedly, Tottenham are still four points short of Chelsea, who sit atop of the league, but there is a sense in the optimism in the North London camp. Outside of their EPL duties, Tottenham have also attended the EFL Cup and the Europa Conference League, where they have done well, beating Mura (5-1) at home and forced a 2-2 draw against Rennes in France.

Obviously, Tottenham still have a lot of work to do before we can start viewing them as serious EPL title contenders. But it all begins with securing three points in must-win games such as this one.

Odds & Free Betting Analysis for This Soccer Game

Unsurprisingly, Tottenham are the favorites for Sunday’s match, priced at around +105, over Newcastle, who the sports bookmakers have priced as +245 underdogs. The offered betting odds seem fair as there is little to suggest Newcastle can win; however, there is a good reason why the odds on the visitors have been rising.

Tottenham, while a respected EPL team, haven’t shown enough of late to inspire confidence. Even though they’re facing one of the bottom teams in the league, their performances alone aren’t enough to justify a position on them.

Given Newcastle’s struggles, it’s likely that Spurs will win; however, they have conceded at least one goal in all of their last five games (eight in total), so it’s not beyond the realms of possibilities that they leak one against Magpies.

A 2-1 victory for Tottenham seems likely, so we’re going with over 2.5 goals bet.
