The United States Men’s National Team failed to qualify for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. If the USMNT had, it would have had to navigate five powerhouses at the top of the Tokyo Olympics soccer odds boards.
At DraftKings Sportsbook, those five countries – Brazil, Spain, France, Argentina, and Germ
any – are all shorter than +500, then a gap to the rest of the field with odds longer than +1000.
Olympic Soccer | A Closer Look
It’s worth noting that in Olympic Men’s Soccer, players over the age of 23 are not allowed on rosters so as to not overshadow the FIFA World Cup. All rosters of qualifying teams will be U23 rosters. The tournament begins Thursday, July 22, and runs through Saturday, August 7.
Brazil is the favorite to take home the gold for the second straight Olympics. In 2016 (Rio de Janeiro), the home team defeated Germany in penalty kicks to cap off one of the most thrilling Olympic soccer tournaments in history. The Brazil National Team has medaled in six of the past 10 Olympics (since 1980), but has only secured gold once. In the stretch of the past four Olympic games (since 2004), Brazil has secured three Copa America titles, including 2019.
Just behind Brazil is Spain, who also won their first and only gold medal in their home Olympics (1992 in Barcelona).
France is the third choice at DraftKings after being installed as the pre-tournament favorite to win the Euro 2020 tournament. France lost a stunner in penalty kicks at Euro 2020 to Switzerland after blowing a 3-1 second-half lead in the Round of 16. France won the gold in the 1984 Olympics (Los Angeles), but has failed to medal since then.
There are 4 groups. In Group A there is Japan, South Africa, Mexico, France. In Group B there is New Zealand, South Korea, Honduras, Romania. In Group C there is Egypt, Spain, Argentina, Australia and in Group D the teams are Brazil, Germany, Ivory Coast, Saudi Arabia.
All of these games will be played on NBC channels where all Olympic events will be televised. With the Group Stage being played from Thursday, July 22 – Wednesday, July 28, we should have fun in late July and another exciting event in the soccer world.
