Pep Guardiola is one of just a handful of managers who have completed the league title treble, domestic Cup, and European Cup, which he did with Barcelona in 2008/09. He has won four EPL titles, one FA Cup, and four EFL cups since he joined Manchester City and a domestic treble in the 2018/19 season.
However, he has the opportunity to repeat what he did for Barcelona because he is still in the semi-final of the UCL, top of the table in the EPL, and set to play the FA Cup final against Manchester United.
Touching Distance to Win the League
Pep Guardiola is set to win his fifth League title in seven premier league seasons as Manchester City manager. He won his first league title in 2017/18, the second in 2018/19, the third in 2020/2021, and the fourth in 2021/22. However, with his team’s performance, we expect him to defend the title again.
Although the current distance between Manchester City and Arsenal is one point, Manchester City has played 34 matches. In contrast, Arsenal has played 35 matches, which means that if City wins their outstanding game to match up with the exact matches played by Arsenal, they would be leading with four points. Therefore, Arsenal must win the remaining matches left to win the League.
Manchester City will travel down to Goodison Park to face Everton on Sunday for their 35th fixture of the season. Everton is among the team battling to escape from the relegation zone, and we expect the game to be challenging for City, but they have a 73% winning chance based on the odds given to them.
After that, Manchester City would face Chelsea on the 21st of May for their 36th fixture of the season, and they would play their outstanding game against Brighton & Hove Albion on the 24th of May. However, their last game for this season would be against Brentford. They need at least ten points from the possible twelve points to win the League over Arsenal.
We know stages like this are usually challenging for every team, primarily when the team is focusing on another tournament, like the UEFA Champions League. Pep Guardiola hopes to win his first UCL title for the City, but it would be challenging to predict his future.
FA Cup Manchester Derby Final
It is now another chance for Pep Guardiola to win his second FA Cup title for Manchester City, winning the first one in 2019. They secured the final after a 3-0 victory over Sheffield United, and they would face Manchester United in the final. We all know Derby games are always challenging, and we expect an exciting game from both teams.
Manchester United has won the carabao cup and hopes to secure their second trophy this season. On the other hand, Manchester City can win three trophies this season: the FA Cup, UCL, and the English Premier League, but it will take hard work and excellent performance from Pep Guardiola and his boys.
However, both teams are scheduled to face each other on the 3rd of June, 2023, and we would know if
The UEFA Champions League: Passing the Madrid Test
On Tuesday, Manchester City faced Real Madrid for their first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. They secured a draw, playing 1-1 against the host. However, the game was challenging for them from the first half when Vinicius Junior scored a few minutes before the first half’s end.
Twenty-two minutes after the second half started, Kevin De Bruyne equalized to level the game. Playing a game in the UCL against a team that has won the title fourteen times is always difficult because they know how to find their way to the final to win the Cup. Fortunately for the City, playing a draw away from home against Madrid is helpful, but they would have to win with a goal at home.
Manchester City will be hosting Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium on the 17th of May, 2023. Pep Guardiola has to take revenge this time because this same Real Madrid knocked them out in the semi-final of the 2021/2022 tournament.
What We Think
Predicting the outcome of Pep Guardiola leading Manchester City to European Glory and the treble is tricky, but City can we the three titles. If they can eliminate Real Madrid in the Semi-Final, they can win the UCL and need ten points to win the EPL. On the other hand, Pep has quality players to face Manchester United in the FA Cup Derby final.
