After a dramatic week of Champions League action around Europe, the attention quickly turns back to domestic competitions, and there are some huge fixtures to look forward to in the Premier League Matchday 9!
Goals Galore On Sunday
Sunday’s Premier League offerings are the most exciting of the season so far, with the biggest match in English soccer creating the perfect main event, as Liverpool travel to Manchester United. The two most successful English club sides are separated by four points, but the pressure will really be on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer against the old rival. United haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last nine home league matches, and have conceded seven in their last three in all competitions.
They will need to be stronger defensively against a Reds side that has already scored 22 goals in eight games this season. United’s attacking play has still been strong, as they have scored five in their last two. However, the Red Devils have beaten Liverpool just once in their last ten league meetings, which means a bet on Liverpool and both teams to score could be the way to go.
Also on Sunday, there is a cracking fixture from the Brentford Community Stadium, as Leicester City are the visitors. Brentford continue to attack every game like it’s their last, and were extremely unfortunate not to have taken a point against Chelsea last weekend. The Bees ended with seven shots on target, as well as striking the post on two occasions. Leicester will also have a go this weekend, as they look to build on their 4-2 win against Manchester United. Both teams to score could be the best bet.
Dry Saturday In Front Of Goal
While goals may be the order of the day in the fixtures on Sunday, the same can’t be said for some of the matches that will be played on Saturday. Fixtures such as Crystal Palace vs Newcastle and Southampton vs Burnley will both be cagey affairs, with all four sides looking set to be part of the relegation scrap this season.
The Toon are among the lowest scorers in the league this season and scored two of their five goals against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend. Another edge afternoon awaits the managerless Magpies this weekend, with a Palace 2-0 win looking like a popular selection.
Southampton ended their wait for a first victory of the season last weekend with a nervy 1-0 win against Leeds. Burnley’s wait for a first victory this term continues, and both sides have scored just eight goals between them in eight fixtures this term. The Clarets have also failed to score in seven of their last eleven, which means a second straight home 1-0 win for the Saints could be the order of the day.
