- Real Salt Lake are undefeated at home across their last four outings
- FC Dallas have not lost at Tinto Stadium once since 2018
- Missing players on both sides
Real Salt Lake will host FC Dallas on Saturday, September 4, at Rio Tinto Stadium in their 22nd game of the MLS regular season. The hosts have lost three of their last five outings, including their previous two; however, they can always count on the home ground advantage.
The Claret and Cobalt are undefeated at home in their last four fixtures and will now look to make it five in a row against a team that is undefeated on the road in just as many games.

Real Salt Lake Preview: No More Room for Error
Real Salt Lake enter this match with a 7-6-8 record on the season and 27 points, which is good for seventh place in the Western Conference. Claret and Cobalt are barely holding onto a top-seven, as they’re tied with Los Angeles FC at 27 points, with only one point separating them from Vancouver Whitecaps and San Jose Earthquakes.
Freddy Juarez’s men were in a much better spot just a month ago; however, a streak of iffy showings (2-0-3) has now put them in an unenviable position. Regardless, not everything is as bad as it may seem, since all three of those losses – against Portland Timbers (2-3), Colorado Rapids (1-2), and Vancouver Whitecaps (1-4) – have come on the road.
On the contrary, the two wins – against Houston Dynamo (2-1) and Austin FC (1-0) – both came from Real Salt Lake’s home games. It’s no secret that home advantage is very important in the MLS, and there are only a few teams in the league who have managed a positive record on the road – Real Salt Lake aren’t one of those.
While Claret and Cobalt struggle have struggled in away games (2-2-6), they usually do well while playing at Rio Tinto Stadium (5-4-2), where they’re unbeaten in their last four outings.
Real Salt Lake will be without Andrew Brody, who remains sidelined due to a toe injury. Joining him on the sidelines are Zackery Farnsworth and David Ochoa, who are still recovering from their injuries.
FC Dallas Preview: Mediocre Season
FC Dallas are 6-7-9 on the season with 25 points, which obviously isn’t great, but it could definitely be much worse. With 25 points to their name, FC Dallas are just two short of catching up to Real Salt Lake in seventh, albeit they have played one game more than their next opponents.
Across their last five outings, FC Dallas have managed two wins, a draw, and two losses (2-1-2). During that stretch, the Hoops lost against Sporting Kansas City (0-2) and Seattle Sounders (0-1), drew with Houston Dynamo (2-2), and won against Austin FC (2-0,5-3).
While you can give FC Dallas some slack for losing against the current top-two teams in the West, we also have to keep in mind that Luchi Gonzalez’s men have only won against Austin FC. What’s more, Dallas conceded three goals in their most recent meeting with El Tree.
With that win, FC Dallas are now 2-2-7 on the road, which includes two solid results against Seattle Sounders (1-1) and Sporting Kansas City (2-1).
FC Dallas will travel to Sandy without Bressan, who picked up a shoulder injury against Houston Dynamo last month. John Nelson and Paxton Pomykal also remain sidelined with injures, while Brandon Servania and Szabolcs Schon remain doubtful.
Odds & Free Betting Analysis for This MLS Game
Real Salt Lake and FC Dallas last met at the end of May 2021 at Toyota Stadium, when they parted ways with a 2-2 draw. It was a closely contested match that didn’t have a clear winner.
Dallas showed more, with 62% ball possession and 29 goal attempts (10 on goal), while the visitors managed only 11 goal attempts (3 on goal), with 38% possession. Regardless, Real Salt Lake weren’t as wasteful with their chances and deservingly walked away from the bout with a point.
FC Dallas weren’t able to deliver last time out, even though they were priced as -105 favourites, and it doesn’t seem like they will look much better this time out. With potentially five key players missing for the visitors, FC Dallas’ chances to hand Juarez’s men their fifth home defeat seem slim.
Real Salt Lake enter this match priced as favourites, at around -110, while Dallas are priced as +260 underdogs, which seems about fair. Even though FC Dallas have had some good results on the road – namely their draw against Seattle and a 2-1 victory against Kansas City – achieving the same feat without key defenders and midfielders won’t come easy.
I expect FC Dallas to put up a fight and compete for coveted points that would help them squeeze into the playoffs, but with the form Real Salt Lake have been showing at home, it’s hard to doubt the hosts, who need to start accumulating points just as badly.
