Franchise History
The Arizona Cardinals are a charter member of the National Football League with history that goes back to 1898. The Morgan Athletic Club was formed in Racine, Wisconsin by Chris O’Brien. The name Cardinals came from some old, used jerseys that he bought from the University of Chicago.
The uniforms were a faded maroon color and were dubbed as Cardinal red. The Racine Street Cardinals began play on a field located at the corner of 61st and Racine Street.
The team moved to Chicago in 1920 after a territorial dispute broke out from a team known as the Tigers. The two teams decided to settle which would stay and which would go by playing each other in a game for the rights. Paddy Driscoll scored the only touchdown in the go for a Cardinals 6-0 victory and the right to stay in town.
In 1932, Charles Bidwell bought the team and continued to play through the World War and eventually won the NFL championship in 1947. In 1960, William V. Bidwell moved the franchise to St. Louis. The team was competitive for many years but came up a game or two short several times in the 1970’s.
The franchise was on the move again in 1988 when Bidwell took the team to Arizona to play at Sun Devil Stadium in Phoenix, Arizona. A modern stadium was built in 2006 and instant success followed as they won several division championships and played in Super Bowl XLIII.
This franchise has never won a Super Bowl.

The draft finds more areas of ned were addressed with the selection and signing of linebacker Isaiah Simmons from Clemson, in the first round and OL Josh Jones, DL Leki Fotu and DL Rashard Lawrence fro LSU as their next picks.

The Cardinals made a lot of changes in the offseason at positions of need. They acquired WR DeAndre Hopkins in a trade that sent RB David Johnson to the Houston Texans. They re-signed RB Kenyan Drake and LT D.J. Humphries.
They added DL Jordan Phillips and LBs Devon Kennard and De’Vondre Campbell in free agency. They selected LB Isaiah Simmons (Clemson) in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft and added OL Josh Jones (Houston), DL Leki Fotu (Utah) and DL Rashard Lawrence (LSU) with their next three picks.
