Franchise History

In 1944, Arthur McBride secured a franchise to the All-America Football conference to begin play in 1946. He hired Paul Brown to be the coach and general manager. The league folded after the 1949 season and three teams went on to join the NFL which included Cleveland.

The franchise had so much success in the AAFC and everyone expected them to fail badly in the new NFL. In 1950, they opened the season with a 35-10 win over the Eagles. Cleveland moved on to win six consecutive Eastern Conference championships.

In 1957, Jim Brown, a running back from Syracuse joined the team and he went on to a Hall of Fame career as he rushed for 12,312 yards in his career. The franchise reached their last NFL championship in 1964 by beating the Colts 27-0.

Arthur Modell bought the team in 1961 for $4 million and began the attempt to move it to Baltimore. The move was blocked and a solution, with the help of the NFL, provided for a new modern stadium.

Cleveland Browns Betting- Looking at the Numbers

The Browns have gone out and added some offense to place around franchise quarterback Baker Mayfield. Now, what he does with it, is yet to be written. Mayfield took a step backwards but he is young enough and talented enough to step up.

Nick Chubb will handle the carries for Cleveland and has been one of the top ranking RB’s in the previous two seasons. Kareem Hunt is a capable backup with some good numbers that show he led the league with 61 forced missed tackles as a rookie in 2017.

The complete receiving corps looked bad last year and do a better job of complementing the strong arm of Mayfield.
