It was 1960 when this franchise came into existence and for the first five seasons they struggled. The owner was Clint Murchison, Jr. and the first GM was Tex Schramm with Tom Landry as the head coach. The team played at the Cotton Bowl.
With their first winning season in 1965, the team went 20 straight years above the .500 mark. During that period the Cowboys had 18 years in the playoffs, 13 divisional championships, five trips to the Super Bowl and victories in Super Bowls VI and XII.
In 1967 the team moved into the 65,024 seat Texas Stadium. The nickname “America’s Team” was hung on them in the 1970’s. In 1989, Jerry Jones bought the team and quickly named former University of Miami coach Jimmy Johnson to the helm.
Barry Switzer took over the coaching duties in 1994 and the winning continued. Jason Garrett took over as the eighth head coach of the team in 2011 and stayed on until the completion of the 2019 season.

Dallas does not retire numbers
With QB Dak Prescott, WB Exekiel Elliott and WR Amari Cooper this offense is in good hands. The question remains can the team buy into a new coach after Jason Garrett was let go. Mike McCarthy was always successful at Green Bay and this is likely to continue.
