It took several tries to get football to stick in Detroit. In the 1920’s the attempt failed. In 1934, George A. Richards purchased a team from Ohio and moved them to Detroit for $8000. The team he bought was admitted to the NFL in 1930 so they were in.
The team played at the University of Detroit in front of 12,000 fans and won the NFL championship in 1935. One year prior, the Lions began playing football on Thanksgiving Day which is a tradition that still exists.
The team won divisional championships three times in the 1950’s and began looking for a new stadium. It wasn’t until 1975 that they moved into the Pontiac Silverdome. They played there for 37 seasons and now call Ford Field, a new domed stadium, as their home.

Detroit Lions Betting- Looking at the Numbers
This team is struggling. After two seasons under Head Coach Patricia they are 9-22. That isn’t going to last long in the Motor City. The tem certainly went out and signed a ton of players but very few are of the top quality.
In the offseason they inked CB Desmond Trufant (signed for two years, $21 million), S Jayron Kearse (signed for one year, $2.75 million) ,LB Jamie Collins Sr. (signed for three years, $30 million, $18 million guaranteed), QB Chase Daniel (signed for three years, $13 million), S Duron Harmon (via trade), DI Danny Shelton (signed for two years, $8 million) and T Halapoulivaati Vaitai (signed for five years, $50 million).
Matt Stafford at quarterback and Kerryon Johnson as the running back is a good start but from there it may fall apart. It remains to be seen if the defense can keep them in games.
