Franchise History

The first management personnel in Minnesota history came from GM Bert Rose and head coach Norm Van Brocklin when the franchise went into existence in 1959. The first owners of the Vikings were a group of five businessmen that included Bill Boyer, Ole Haugsrud, Bernie Ridder, H. P. Skoglund and Max Winter.

The were given permission to join the NFL in 1961 and had the spectacular quarterback Fran Tarkenton who went on to set many, many records. In the first game he came off the bench and tossed four touchdowns and ran for one. Later, he became the first Viking to be selected to the Nationl Football League Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

In the past 25 years, Minnesota has participated in four Super Bowls. The team moved to the Hubert H, Humphrey Metrodome in 1982 that had a seating capacity of 62,000 fans. Since moving they enjoyed winning 6 of every 10 home games.
